Deb_N's Journal, 22 August 2014

Please log your foods! Until I started writing down everything I eat, I had no clue that I was eating more calories than the calories I burned in exercise. You can study what you eat and make changes to be more successful in your weight loss. If you are shy like I was, just write it down for yourself on a sheet of paper or a 3 x 5 inch index card. You can do it!

Great advice. Nice loss too!

As always good advice Deb. I used to write mine down in notebooks, tediously figuring the calories, here is easier. I'm at goal as far as weight goes, I still log most days, I should do all.

karenromiaih2002 if Deb makes her food log private her journal will also be private and most people stay connected to their buddies that way. I agree that everyone who is serious about losing weight should log all of their food intake. A lot of people don't bother doing that but then they are in a weight-loss stall, get discouraged and they give up.

I don't even see why one would be shy because all of us here are on the same journey. We all have the same problem and can only help each other.

Snezica - thanks for explaining that the food log and the journal are linked to be open or private. I definitely want my journal to be open and people can give me tips. Ceboz - I was shy to log my foods, because I eat simple foods. I thought people will think I am a boring person or something. lol

Lol admitting eating crazy things is the first step towards enlightenment... Only when the self-consciousness is broken we begin to see our true selves and take required action to get better.

it so true that logging your food is an eye opener.

Deb, you are not boring. Nothing wrong with simple foods, they are good for you. Mine tend to be off the wall, but that's my crazy eclectic way of cooking. Have been stuck this week because my frig is a mystery mess. Would open the door after work, feel overwhelmed and eat what was handy. Not a good plan; couldn't even track it well. At least the weight has stayed steady. Definitely needs to be emptied out this weekend.

Nice drop!

If you want to talk boring, Deb, try vegetarian or any kind of plant based diet. If you are so inclined to do so, visit forksoverknives dot com.

Eddie, I will disagree totally on that one. Vegetarian dishes are incredibly varied. Most cultures rely mostly on vegetables and eat little meat. There are hundreds of vegetable choices and only a few animal proteins. You could eat vegetarian for years and never repeat a dish. Not sure what you believe vegetarians eat that would be boring.... I'm not vegetarian but could be fairly easily, many weeks I do not eat meat.

Yes they are varied, but what I meant is that they are always vegetables. You don't get to pick beef, pork or chicken tonight. I love cooking and enjoy this a lot because of just what you said. I rarely repeat a meal. When you also remove breads, pasta, potatoes.... then you start getting restrictive, but there are still more vegetables than meats!

Personally I don't remove any foods. I love pasta, potatoes, whole grains, and homemade whole grain breads. I'm not on a low carb plan all that animal protein makes me sick to my stomach all the time.

The diabetes dictated for me that I should not have white flour and yeast based bread, potatoes, rice or pasta (and I LOVE rice and pasta). I can have like a scoop of brown rice once in a while. I just started the vegetarian lifestyle this year so this is still all exciting. My best friend has been vegetarian for 30 years and she has helped a lot with it. And I downloaded a lot of ebooks with vegan and vegetarian recipes. Cooking is fun again. I went this way because without eating beef, pork or chicken I no longer drive through the fast food joints. Down 70 pounds so I guess I am doing something right. Not just the diet choice though. Started exercising after many years without. Now that I am retired and no longer come home from a job so tired I just want to nap I spend 90 minutes a day on my body. All ties together. Diet and exercise. (D&E as I have on a greaseboard on my fridge. D&E.)

Cool, but for me it's not boring, it's an adventure into different cuisines. I can see how it would help keep a person away from fast food. I've never liked fast food, used to get in trouble for bringing my lunch when I was a McDonald's manager, we were supposed to taste every product, every shift. Definitely less expensive not eating much meat so helps my budget. Good for you losing 70 pounds!!! I've lost 60 pounds eating legumes, whole grains, veggies and little meat. Beef maybe every 2-3 months. I do try to eat fish at least once a week. Believe I understand coming home from work tired, I'm mentally exhausted at the end of a work day. Looking forward to the gym after work again as it decreases stress but not getting home as late as I was with a rider. Am 65 would love to retire but the budget won't work. There are options for pasta, spaghetti squash, that machine people were talking about a few days ago, low carb pastas in the stores. Rice, I mostly use red rice, whole grain nuttier flavor than brown and brown jasmine. I know with diabetes you have to control carbs. A friend is always insisting I have to follow her diabetic plan..m

Yeah, Wholefood, we are all headed toward the same healthy destination but taking different paths. I mainly watch the net carbs. I eat a good deal of fiber which brings the number down. Today with a Browns game on TV I enjoyed an extra snack of pita chips and hummus, which replaces what I USED to eat watching a game. A large pizza, or chili dogs, or wings.... and diet Pepsi. No more. I was eating as many as 8 non breakfast meals from fast food places. That's 8 out of 14! No more. Haven't had fast food or diet pop since Dec 27th. Water and iced tea with Truvia, or hot tea. Celestial Seasoning's herbal teas rock it. I would NEVER have done this if i was still working. I would get home at 5:45, feed the dog, let her out in the yard, and then make my dinner, and by 7 I was dozing in my recliner, where I sat until 11 when I went to bed. Terrible life. I was having financial problems then that made the dollar menu look real attractive to me. Ate very bad food. No more.

Awesome Eddie!!! Good changes in your life!!! celestial seasoning's teas are really good. Just downloaded a free book on tea on the kindle app. Haven't read it yet.

My daughter does not like tea. She eats a bucket load of fruit every day and says tea tastes bitter to her. I tell her that there was a study, that people who drank 2 cups of tea a WEEK had a lower risk of cancers and she still won't drink tea. I drink 3 cups of tea every day. It's good for you.

I do their Bengal Spice or Cinnamon Apple Spice every night after my workout, and Wild Berry during the day. From where I live, if I order on a Wednesday afternoon, I have my order Thursday morning.
