debbra's Journal, 30 January 2009

Friday morning: Oh, my gosh! I can't believe that I did this to myself. Ten pounds in one week on the scale? I had no idea. I've been afraid to go on the scale for the last few days, and look what it's done to me. I didn't realize that I've been in this much of a rut! (Update -- It wasn't really ten. It was a four pound weight gain. I don't know what happened to my scale. But I'm not going to erase that ten pound gain from my journal because I did see it, even for just a moment. I don't know what caused such a huge difference on my scale. But I did gain, just four pounds.)

All my FS family -- please don't be shy or feel sorry for me! Feel free to tell me what you think, to be hard on me. I can take it, and I need it. I am blown away by this scale reading. I wouldn't have even gone on the scale if my FS page hadn't made me. I had given up to this complete feeling of malaise. I've been idle and I've given into every temptation willingly. I just can't believe it made such a big impression on the scale.

So I guess today is my starting over day. Well I'm going to write down some new goals:

1. Avoid carbs as much as possible. I think they are truly my Achilles heal.

2. Weigh myself daily, and record it on here.

3. Get back to commenting on others' journals, and don't avoid communicating just from embarrassment.

4. Treadmill every day.

5. Stay away from all sweets.

6. No soda. Water only!! And a lot of it!!!

I might add some more later.

UPDATE AT 1:43 P.M. -- I went my full treadmill of 90 minutes, thank G-d! It was a real struggle for me today! But I did the full 90 minutes at 3.6 mph, at level 6 incline. I have been following my new list so far very well! Oh, and for anyone who has not been up to date with my comments on this particular journal entry, I did NOT gain 10 pounds. Only 4!

UPDATE AT 4:00 P.M. -- I've been looking on the internet because I have forgotten my points allowance from WW. I've figured that I can have 21 points a day, plus 5 points for 90 minutes of exercise. So that's 26 points a day. Then if I want to play with the 35 a week, I can have maybe 5 points extra a day. So total 31 points. But I shouldn't go over that. This is for days like today, where I did exercise. I think I shouldn't be going over 1500 calories if I cane help it. I need to remember those numbers.
163.6 lb Lost so far: 3.4 lb.    Still to go: 23.6 lb.    Diet followed poorly.

Hey there! Okay, let's take a step back and look at things... Could it be from water weight? Are you hormonal? Are you eating lots of salty foods? Is your scale working right? Could it be from your allergic reactions? The medicines you are on? Okay, if all that is in check- How bad do you want this? Do you want to feel thin? Look thin? You can do it! You have done this and you know what works and what does not. Don't feel sorry for yourself because that is not going to help you. You are worth it and you have to be strong. Don't give into that temptation when it shows up. If you make your mind up to do so, you will lose. You are a beautiful, caring, and wonderful friend. I want to help you any way that I can. You will have to be strong and know that some days are just going to be really tough. You will have some bad days. So come on, Girl! We are your support group here. Don't ever forget that. <3

This is really weird. I got on the scale again and it said I gained but not as much as I thought, Only about four pounds. Well I think it's a mixture of a bunch of stuff that screwing up my weigh-in. But that 10 pound gain -- I'm going to nix that and put in what it just said. I still need a good kick in the rump, though, or I will be back to 169 pounds. I just did an hour on my treadmill, and I'm going to go another half an hour now. And I'm going to stick to my new list! Maybe my scale was just yelling at me to get back on track! LOL!

Go kick it!!! Bad scale, bad scale, bad scale! :0) I would change that weigh in, too! Good girl on the treadmill!

LOL! I agree! But ultimately, maybe the scale had a game plan, a sort of "stimulus package" for me! LOL!

You are too funny! One day a few weeks ago I stood upon the scale and it read 135. I stepped off, then back on and it said 135 again. I KNEW that wasn't right, so I got on it again and it read 165. What the heck kind of joke was it trying to play on me? I think the scales go out at night and party together and share funny stories to each other while we are asleep!

LOL!

LOL! You two are too funny. Thank God for you Red because I would not have thought to have Deb check off what could have been driving that weight gain. When I read your journal, Deb, I didn't think that sounded right. So if you have been going all willy-nilly with non-healthy foods then the 4lb gain may be more realistic. You will do just fine...don't sweat the gain, we will have those rollercoaster rides sometimes.

This is an interesting article I found online: Take out the {space asterisk space} to view: http://www.nursingde * greeguide.org/ * 2008/50-surprisi * ng-causes-of- * weight-gain/

two words. 'new batteries' :)

Don't worry too much! I went through a similar freak-out a few weeks ago. I hate water weight fluctuations on the scale! Judge your weight based on how you feel (energetic vs. lacking energy) and how your clothes fit (tight, just right, loose, or I need new clothes because I'm a ROCK STAR).

New batteries -- check! I'm on it! Roller coaster ride -- I am definitely on one! And I am starting to feel more like a rock star, thanks to my treadmill! LOL!! And thanks, red, for the site! I am going to study it!

awesome job getting it under control!!

Look at it as a 6lb loss from the first weigh in!

The main point here is that you are able to record the 10 pound gain. As long as you are not afraid to face/record your weight, it's only a matter of time before you catch your stride and start losing. If you want to record what you have eaten, it's hard to beat TheDailyPlate.com. You are confronting your problem head on, good work!

I just read the update, whatever... :-)

Glad the 10 lbs was a fake-out. :)

Ya, Information! But a gain is a gain. And I did gain. I think my scale was just trying to knock me on the side of the head and say, "Hey, get back to work!" Well, I never thought of giving my scale a personality, name, et cetera. I think I will now because what he did definitely worked. He, scaly, got me out of a week-long rut. It's the evening now, and I'm feeling a lot better!

I think it is a combo of muscle weight too, maybe along with too many calories this week? You prob. truly are gaining muscle with all that walking on the incline on the treadmill. I would try not to count those activity points as much if you can for greater success. I don't know what WW would say about that, but when I do count points (which is not often) I never counted the activity points and had good success with that. I gave myself 22 points for 140 lbs- not sure why yours is 21. Also, I do weigh myself daily, but only record it once a week. I like to see where I am at, but it does flucuate so a weekly weigh in seems to show more of what is really happening overall in the weight loss. I think you are on the right path, so keep at it and make healthy choices.

I am just so pleased that I pulled myself out of this hole. I am still not feeling very well and I am sluggish. But if I had not weighed myself this morning and gotten such a shock, I probably would have slept all day. It took a lot for me to pull myself up and get on that machine. And I've been thinking about food ALL DAY LONG! But if I can get through today, I think tomorrow will be much better! And about the 21 points, that's with no moving. I added up the points. I figure I'll add on some for the 35 a week and the exercise so I don't get too hungry.

Rachel, if you don't count points, how do you know how much you've eaten?
