Kind of fell off the wagon last night. I ate "normally" during the day, but forgot about a dinner date at a lovely restaurant with my dad and his gal pal. No chance of rescheduling (we were all looking forward to it) but I only had 600 calories left.
So... I didn't worry about it. I ordered the short rib which came with a load of vegetables and au gratin potatoes all drizzled with a delicious gravy. I ate everything but the broccoli! I had a piece of bread and butter. Drank a lot of water. It was yummy and filling, and I had a great time.
Some things I did NOT do: order a side salad (avoided dressing); drink alcohol; eat my way through the entire loaf of bread on the table (proud of myself for stopping at one slice); eat dessert. There are lots of traps in a restaurant, but I feel that I had the same experience as anyone in there and did not feel that I shorted myself.
That particular restaurant did not have a lower calorie menu, which is where I would have looked first. One thing I did was access the menu online ahead of dinner so I could look through the choices and figure out what was best for me without boring everyone at the table. That way I also got the "Oh, parmesan crusted sand dabs!" out of the way without being tempted right in the moment. That was a HUGE benefit for my impulsive little (big) appetite.
So... I went over my calorie limit. Mea culpa. I still am down two ounces!!!
