brittinieheath90's Journal, 18 December 2017

So it’s been a week since I started trying to lose weight again. I started last Monday and on Tuesday I had to go to the doctor because I was sick. They prescribed me Prednisone because of my bronchitis. I weighed today and it appears I’ve gained 2lbs, after I had dropped 7. Just wondering, has anyone else expected this? I’ve done very well at following my diet. I haven’t cheated, everything I’ve eaten I have recorded. As of yesterday I am no longer taking the prednisone. I’m just wondering if maybe when it comes out of my system if my weight will start to come down. * plus I don’t want to add that I’ve gained 2lbs on here because I know I will get discouraged and quit. I definitely don’t want to quit*

whatever you do don't quit. you are stronger than you think - I promise. it doesn't matter if you fall, what matters is the choice you make after the fall

Yeah I’ve heard that unfortunately. Ok well I will be patient and continue. I’ll wait and weigh again maybe Friday.

It took me a minute to lose that weight but I was injured pretty bad. (dead lifting 450 lbs, L1, 2 and 3 discs buldging, 2 and 3 pressing in on my spinal cord; also separated my left SI joint and 2 years before that I shattered my right knee cap in Afghanistan). I maintained weight the best I could with diet alone tested my self every day...I thought I was never going to able to run again. They put me on a series of prednisone and I shot from 230 to 300 lbs. I kept my head up and now I'm running, doing burpees and I'm closer to my goal weight than I ever have since the year 1999

I injured my back in an accident in 2007 and they gave me shots of prednisone and a prescription to follow. I was 128lbs at the time. Within 2 months I was 158. That was the beginning of my weight gain which resulted in me ending up at 215 lbs January 2017. Prednisone absolutely messed with my metabolism and my hormones. It's a steroid. The accident also prohibited me from doing much exercise. I am now 151, finally. I still get bad back problems if I do too much exercise. I got severe bronchitis in October and my doctor prescribed prednisone. I told her not to bother, hell would freeze over before I would ever take it again. It took me longer to recover but that was fine with me. I know several people who have had similar experiences.

I was put on 60 mg of prednisone a year ago. I gained 25 pounds. I struggled. I researched losing weight on prednisone and although I really didn't lose any on the high dose I didn't go above the 25 pound gain. Plus the prednisone made my blood sugar sky rocket and I had to go on insulin. Large amounts of insulin which can cause weight gain too. I had daily bouts of vertigo and dizziness which came when I stood. I would hang on to the wall to get to the restroom. I had low blood sugars and high blood sugars. I followed my WoE (at that time was keto.) which even though I wasn't losing I wasn't gaining and I felt confident that when I was taking less medication I would lose. Now I follow 1200 calories, reduced sodium, and lower carbs. I drink 8 cups of water a day and try for a gallon of water. I am on 6 mg of prednisone and I am on a downward trend. My insulin has been reduced to 7 unit per meal. It is slow going but not following a plan of action would be hopeless. Take care you will succeed.
