debbra's Journal, 18 May 2017

My one year old puppy was killed yesterday. She was playing in our backyard, and I heard her screaming and struggling from behind the bushes. And then she was gone. We searched everywhere. But we saw two hawks hovering about a half hour later, and we heard an owl. We had fortified our fence with chicken wire, and I believed the raccoons or coyotes couldn't get in. We live on the top of a canyon and have a lot of brush and bushes. So I thought our dogs were not visible to predators. Now I know that was stupid. I'm numb, but I did a lot of crying yesterday. And now I'm emotionally drained and exhausted. I have had no appetite. This is not the diet I wanted. I just wanted to record my experience here for my own sake, to get it out of me, although this is draining me as well. My two dogs are the first dogs I've ever had, due to allergy in my family when I was growing up. So this is a painfully new experience for me. I know dogs don't live forever, and I don't want to complain. I'm thankful that she died quickly. I'm sure I heard her last moments as the sounds ended abruptly. She was a sweetheart, happy, spirited little baby. And I miss her terribly. Rest in Peace, my little Lucy.

am So sorry for your loss, I can only imagine what you'regoing through, I would be devastated if anything ever happened to my precious little ferret, she's the life of the party everywhere she goes and make friends so easily, to lose her would be crushing so I can only imagine the loss you're feeling for Lucy.

I'm so incredibly sorry for your loss. My heart is just breaking for you. As a devoted pet parent I understand how deeply you feel the loss of a pet, and how hurtful it can be when some people scoff at the pain of that loss. Sending healing thoughts your way.

Losing a pet is never easy. We have lost too many of our dogs to cancer. They do become your children and loyal companion.

Thank you again for all the support! It really does help. Nature is overwhelming our home right now. I suppose it's because spring is here. This morning bees started coming into the house through the chimney, and I saw a swarm on top when I went outside, probably the queen having landed there. So a friend of mine came over to get rid of them for me. And we discussed what probably happened to Lucy. I didn't see or hear any birds fly away with her. So he thinks a coyote probably lured her close enough to the fence to grab her. And because she was so friendly and fearless, I believe that's probably what happened. So her last moments were spent playing. For that I am grateful.

So sorry for your little Lucy...I love all animals...I have 12 or 14 dogs...lost count but some times I think I like animals more than people. Don't be angry about me saying this....it is only a trust issue.
