~Taking a look back~ What might I say to the girl 69 days ago?

It was around 69 days ago that in a light hearted manner, I decided it was time to "take off the winter weight". As I've written before, it was really meant to be a temporary commitment. Part of me was still languishing in fat serenity from the holidays. And, I figured it was time to take the proverbial 10-15 lbs off I normally lose for the past 2 years and prepare myself for spring and summer. And, when Fall rolls around, throw caution to the wind, binge and put it all back on again. I'm not joking when I write this, I actually told people I would just put it all back on in the coming Fall. But, then my mother introduced me to this site and a few inner transformations began to take place and now I find myself enjoying a strong commitment to the the path of good health, positive weight loss, and weight management. The kind of health management that doesn't just last for a season, but indeed carries me through a lifetime.

So, looking back today, what might I tell that girl to be prepared to face when she was first beginning what she thought was a routine journey?

1. Keep an open mind, a VERY OPEN MIND! LOL
2. Life is what happens when we're making other plans. Have goals, but understand the journey there may differ from the plan at times, and this is OKAY
3. It's okay to hop out of your box and try new approaches you might not have considered before
4. Be prepared for some intense emotions, regardless of success because weight loss alone will not address those issues that made you gain to begin with. There will be some emotional reckoning to do.
5. Keep your expectations in check and be prepared to calculate and recalculate to make sure you're on the right track
6. Allow your reasons for losing to change or expand along the way
7. Finding support is an absolute must!
8. Don't be afraid to share your journey and your goals with others
9. Don't be afraid to say "NO" and assert what your food boundaries are right now or at any given moment
10. It's not as important to know why you fell off the wagon in the past as it is to understand what made you want to stay there
11. Very essential, have compassion and love for yourself; however, compassion and love for oneself does not include indulging in behaviors that are otherwise harmful to your mind or body
12. Push, but just enough. Challenge, but don't overwhelm, and of course always keep in mind it's one day at a time, and sometimes it's one moment at a time...

Poppycorn, I confess, part of the reason I wrote this was to invite others to look back on their own journey's as well and think about what they might tell the person they were when they first begin their weight loss program. It's a great way to think about how you've changed and are changing personally through this process :-)
