I won't weigh until a week has passed, and now that I know this eating plan is working really well, I will likely start weighing less. The inevitable ups and downs can be discouraging, so I'll just keep to plan and weigh when I feel like it.

Yesterday I let my carbs creep up and could feel the uncontrollable urge to eat that they produce. I held it in check but it was a very good reminder. Observing my reactions, I simply need to keep my carbs no more than 60 and preferably significantly less. One special carb meal every few days will be good enough.

I stumbled down my hillside garden a couple days ago and injured my back, so exercise is off the table for a couple more days. Fortunately, just wrenched, no real injury but it could have been really bad. Thankful for the grace of God!

When you restrain yourself from daily weigh ins, your weight history line is much cleaner. I like the daily weights right now and my line looks more like a smudge 😁 About the carb cravings, do you get them from just any old carbs or from particular carbs?

Going to let you guys in on a secret. Its not really carbs your craving. Its sugar in general. Carbs turn to sugar almost as soon as they hit your blood. The problem? insulin. When your insulin climbs you get stupid hungry. And usualy for foods that will KEEP it high. Like(You guessed it) More SUGAR!!! Weeeeee, don't you love how that cycle works?

I eat a cup of pinto beans and get no cravings. They are leftover beans in my fridge. Does this mean I am not getting an insulin spike? Are the beans now a resistant starch?

That's MAhJohns department. I have not had beans for 4 months. LOL Or any starches to be honest. I know dropping to 1 meal a day has DEMOLISHED my insulin levels. You see, the less times you eat, the faster your insulin go's down and the LOWER down it go's. That means LESS and LESS hunger. After enough time, insulin levels drop so low and so quickly that your body is almost permanently in Fat burning mode.

There must be a point where the insulin problems are repaired. What does that look like and feel like? I wonder 😕

Not being hungry When you just cease to be hungry is a huge sign. Also, for the first two months I monitored my blood sugar LIKE A HAWK. when the blood sugar starts to stabilize and not jump around is another good sign. But the hunger is a big one.

@Last: Legumes are naturally resistant starches, rice, potatoes and pasta are retrograde starches that convert from simple to resistant. So while eating your beans, you're still getting some sugars absorbing in the gut and some do but not. If you have a glucose meter, use it to see what the rise is after meal. For insulin, it's a two part deal... One reducing sugar intake allows the body to use stored fats for energy, once a small amount of fat from the Pancreas is used, insulin will be released as normal. The second part is key.... If you have been Diabetic for many years, you may have insulin resistant cells. Basically they're tired... Tired of insulin shoving glucose into the day after day.... And they quit, they've said nope.... We're not taking it anymore. Do you glucose levels remain high. Your body is ready to fix these cells. Autophagy kicks in when insulin levels remain low and restart each time it rises and falls. Intermittent Fasting for 16hrs allows autophagy process to Paak 15-17hrs , during this time it clears out old cells and replaces them with new ones that have no memory of anything you've done before. In as little as a month, Diabetes can be reversed with LCHF/IF. Now as glucose is normalized quickly, care and attention must be taken with pills and insulin so as not to be hypoglycemic, as you're artificially lowering blood sugar while doing the same thing naturally.

I think most people on FS will understand carbs and might misinterpret sugars to mean sugary foods, which is why I used the term. I actually eat virtually no sugars at all and haven't for years. Well, of course except those naughty carbs that turn to glucose which is STILL sugar, so I'm not totally free from the addiction. Yesterday started when I had gluten free toast (I have a wheat allergy) and kick-started the hunger cycle. I know better. Grains turn to sugars in about 2 1/2 second, or like you put an IV straight into your vein *smacking my head at my stupidity!* Today is a fast day for me so I'll quickly clean out the system and get back on the right track.

Mahjohn, you posted while I was writing, thanks for that teaching. Good stuff. Unfortunately, I can't have legumes right now as I have an additional dietary limitation while I'm healing my intestinal tract from borderline Celiac disease. My overlapping programs are Intermittent Fasting and the SCD Diet (The Specific Carbohydrate Diet) which is used to heal the damage from Celiac, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Crohn's disease, diverticulitis, and other diseases of the intestinal tract. I had started having troubling symptoms related to the above and discovered http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/ Certain foods are digestible for the compromised intestinal tract and others are not and damage it further. I have been eating off the list for a year and have seen HUGE improvement. One day I'll get my beans back and black bean soup here I come!

There is a language issue, for sure. I say I eat no sugar, and people chime in with "x, y, and z turn into sugar, so you do eat sugar." Hence, I say I don't eat sucrose. Yeah, I skip the bread. It's a lit match for me, and I guess for you, as well.

HATE that they cut off links. Anyone interested in the SCD Diet just google that term and you'll find "Breaking the Vicious Cycle."

Hadn't thought about how carbs make you hungry before. It's true the more sweets I eat the more I want. Maybe just not all at once, but on a regular bases. I understand hormones and insulin play a part. I think the bad bacteria is sending msg to my brain. I picture little critters in my gut being bombarded with healthy low glycemic foods, the good ones are gobbling it up and the bad ones are crying "I'm mellltiiing..."

Is there a book I can read about this "Intermittent Fasting for 16hrs allows autophagy process to Paak 15-17hrs ," you speak of? I would like to research this. I'm always interested in learning about anything physiology and nutrition

Oooops it was Mahjohn that spoke of this. Now where did he go to........

Brad Pilon's "Eat Stop Eat" is easy to read and follow. It happens to be what I first read to get started. I'm sure there are some other books someone else will recommend. I really like Dr. Fung's videos that you can find on youtube, a good start is Dr. Jason Fung - 'Therapeutic Fasting - Solving the Two-Compartment Problem' : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIuj-oMN-Fk

Ditto on the Jason Fung YouTube video. Changed my life!

Jason is based in Canada and has a lot of information on the dietdoctor.com site run by Dr. Andreas Eenfeldt, based in Sweden, it's become THE cereal hub globally for LCHF Dr's and information. Dr. Robert Lustig's video series"The Complete Skinny on Obesity" is a must watch for anyone looking to understand exactly how they put on so much body fat, an hour long, and well worth it.
