ok...i have a craving for something sweet and chocolate...this doesnt happen often but it has. what to do? eat some chocolate and satisfy my craving or eat a piece of fruit and pretend its chocolate?

well DL, i dont have any gum but i do have some oranges, grapefruit, almonds and walnuts...maybe i will eat a bit of one of those..but i still need to eat something for supper.

Many people love the 72% cacao dark chocolate!! It's allowed (small portion) on LCHF, I tend to overdo the small portion, but many people don't!

what is the cacao dark chocolate? is it like dark chocolate candy bar or something?

I make sugar free chocolate pudding with 0% milk

when i have it I eat chocolate or double chockolate jell-o sugar free pudding.If you not on low carb diet.Its 60 cal.And I don't feel guilty after.Also Dr.Oetker have 50-Calorie Milk Chocolate Mousse.If you on low carb diet and like dark chocolate Lindt have 99% cocoa dark chocolate that have very strong taste and low carbs :)

Hey Navymom, Dark chocolate, sometimes grapes, sometimes blueberries, Yoplait source 0 mini yogurts (35 cal each), every once in a long while desert (birthdays, etc)....not all LCHF diet friendly but....part of life. Portion control at all times key!!

thanks to all for the suggestions. i will be checking into all of them...but probably will not give in to my craving...am trying my darnedness to stay strong.

If you are ever worried about what to, or not to eat, try pre-logging it into your daily diet Log...often I'll do that and go "no way I'm eating that" and also often "that's not bad"...you can even change quantity sizes to see how things add up...just delete what you didn't eat after checking how it "fits" calorie or carb wise in your daily diet. Good luck!

Maybe it will fade after you eat dinner? It's interesting that you had the oatmeal for breakfast and now you crave something sweet. This is what happens to me if I have very many carbs at breakfast - it's hard to keep control later (due to blood sugar drop). I do incorporate good quality dark chocolate in my low carb program. The dark chocolate that Smartygirl mentions is a plain chocolate bar, kind of like a Hersheys chocolate bar. The percentages of chocolate are displayed on better brands of chocolate candy. Walmart carries Lindt and Ghirardelli - these are good, just watch your portions. Some of the other things people have mentioned here are OK on a low fat diet but not for low carb - better check your labels!

I also do what Steven Lloyd is suggesting. It's a great way to see the impact on your daily result of what you are anticipating. And if what you are considering is a real no-no, you can plug in some possible alternatives, either in item or perhaps quantity.

T64, i do have some Ghirardelli chocolate chips in my fridge. i forgot about them. but yes, since i have eaten dinner the craving has lessened a lot. will probably forgo eating any chocolate today.

Navymom, I also do what Steven Lloyd suggests. Sometimes too a "close enough" substitute will do the job. In the winter months I'll make hot chocolate using chocolate extract. When it's warmer, chocolate milk with extract and ice cubes or chocolate protein powder. There is also a Chia seed chocolate pudding receipe floating around on the web. I haven't tried it yet but plan to.

Chocolate chips, perfect! I use those too, the label tells you the carb count for 13 chips, I believe. Very satisfying. @jimmipop - I wish I could like extra extra dark chocolate, but I don't. I also find 60% chocolate too sweet.

When I'm dying for chocolate that's the only time I do the atkins products. I go for the M&M's knockoffs and I eat them one at a time allowing each one to melt on my tongue. I find eating them slowwwwww is very satisfying. Annnd a few times I've whipped together a little cream cheese, cocoa powder, coconut oil, butter, and stevia to make a sort of no bake cheesecake tasting thing to quiet the chocolate gods.

NavymomT, Steven Lloyd's suggestion is a good one. Also, a few weeks ago, a nutritionist emailed me to say, "Whenever you have a craving for chocolate, drink a bit of pickle juice." Dunno if that helps at all, but since I've been pouring the juice from pickled jalapeños on my Turkey burgers, I must admit that I don't think about chocolate again for a good 6-7 hours. Have any pickled veggies around the house?

When this happens I suck on a few chocolate chips and it will cure it and they are not to bad if you have 3 or 4, but if you eat the bag then all bets are off. lol

That's a good idea, brucemcguigan, don't know why I never thought of chips! Think I'll make up a few little packets and stick them in the freezer for emergencies. The little bead/button bags should be perfect and will help control the lack of portion control.
