Cutting desserts is probably good but be careful cutting breakfast it could make you over eat later just a suggestion.

I've seen studies going both ways on breakfast. I much prefer to eat breakfast because otherwise I get the "low blood sugar crabbies." But I eat moderately and make sure I'm getting protein at breakfast. Usually I have plain yogurt (a high-quality locally-made brand with a wide spectrum of good bacteria) with a handful of blueberries (which I get from a local farm and keep in the freezer). I like cereal in the morning, but I've been looking for types with moderate carbs and a lot of fiber, like Fiber One. Very low calorie compared with other cereals, and the fiber keeps me full. For me, this isn't about "dieting" so much as it is implementing gradual change in my eating and exercise habits, so that those changes last for a lifetime.

Sometimes I just allow myself one spoonful of dessert, rather than a whole bowl/plate of it. Whatever works for you! Good luck!

As for desserts -- growing up, we seldom had desserts. At holidays there were sweets around, there were usually some cookies to be had, but pies and cakes and such were only occasional. Thus I never developed the dessert habit, and still only rarely have desserts. Oh, I often have something like a small square of really good organic dark chocolate after dinner, but not a full serving of pie or cake every evening. Just a taste, slowly savored, and I'm good.
