Jodie P Carter's Journal, 05 March 2015

Well the last couple of weeks have been a total disaster. I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia which is a chronic pain condition that is not curable. So what did I do. Took comfort in my old enemy food! And high white carbs at that. Ironically its this type of food that makes me feel worse. So enough! Today is a fresh start and I am determined to do what I can to improve my health. Hope everyone is having success on their journey

Ah hell that isn't good, and I can understand your reaction, the comfort food thing is something we've all done. Sometimes we do it without even having a reason as bad as yours, so well done on getting back on the right mind set, hang in there!

I Hope this helps- My husband HAD This diagnosis, and he did get over it! :) I give credit to God! Here is what worked for him. "Immunovar"- medication. You can only get it from Canada and over Seas with a script. Every time my Husband had a flare up from the F.M, he would used this medication. He always returned back to normal. The results lasted 6 months to a year. Now he is fine. Vitamins, eating healthy, sleeping when ever you over tired, Faith, and possibly this medication helped him. I hope it will help you too! Last, My husband was told no not to exercise, or very little exercise. Why? Because it is very hard for people who have this autoimmune disorder to get rid of toxins. Normal healthy people expel toxins called Uric Acid from their muscles when they exercise. People with FM store toxins in their muscles while exercising. I hope this helps you. I am not a doctor, so I suggest that you do your own do diligence here on the internet. Much luck to you, with help from God. Blessings~Ann

Thanks for the support guys. I have toned the exercise down a bit and using lighter weights but doing the reps very slowly and making sure im using correct form. There is no way I cant exercise. One I work in the gym and two I get a bit twitchy after a couple of days off. Definitely listening to my body and resting when I need to. My doc has put me on a new muscle relaxer drug and it has helped the pain in my lower back and hips. Actually getting a bit of sleep at night. Not going to lie down and be a victim :-) thanks again for your kind words. Ps today has been a lot better. Not perfect but better

My thoughts are with you Jodie, fibromyalgia is one of those diseases that a lot of research is being done on. My brother-in-law has it also. Amazing when you start talking about something how prevalent it seems to be when beforehand you hardly ever heard about it eh? Hope the diet, exercise and drugs help. There are a lot of support groups out there and also certain Doctors who 'specialise' in it.

I have fibromyalgia and have suffered pain for many years. I have been on a low carb diet for the past 8 months and the pain has reduced to very bearable, in fact not taking any pain meds any more. Was taking Gabapentin and still in pain. I don't eat any sugar or grains and life is much more enjoyable. I'm not saying this will work for you but is certainly worth a try.

Oh and the best exercise is swimming or any gentle water aerobics etc. Don't do any hard exercise, only worsens pain

Gabapentin didnt work for me either. It made me feel awful. I saw a pain psychologist yesterday so will see how that helps. Cycling atmedium intensity helps my hip pain and will try some swimming too. Still doing some gentle yoga and stretching daily
