Start simple...Walking, bike riding, even Yoga. There is so much in the way of instructional manuals it can get confusing. Some people like movement other like to pick up heavy things. Just depends on what you enjoy.

I think the best thing to do is if you haven't been active at all is to start very slow..Build your core up with walking, light strength training. When I started I did walking and yoga now I workout 1.5 hours {including 30 minute cardio}3x a week at the gym, then a 1 hour cardio 3x a week at home or gym. that took me about 2 months to work up to but you can do it.

Walking is soooo good for you--easy on knees. I love to walk listening to music that makes me want to move. I do 30--60 minutes on treadmill every morning and occasionally walk outside. Tomorrow I'm going to trail at Metro Park and do a little "hiking." I started with 10 minutes walking then increased as year progressed. You can do it.

I was sedentary for the past 1 1/2 years. I started with low impact exercise DVDs at home and Youtube videos something I could just push play after I lifted my butt off of my couch. Next I managed to drive around the corner to local parks w/my ear buds in and with some jams playing I walk it out. Now finally 3 weeks ago I'm attending Zumba classes 2 a week. I'm still tweeking a regular regime though and I literally had to crawl before I walked. Good luck lady! You got this!

I agree with the low impact DVD at home or if you have Wii or Xbox games try the dance games- they are fun and you get a good workout in the privacy of your own home.

You look very young and possibly able to do about anything, try different things till you find what you enjoy because it makes it easier to keep up.

If you want to jog/run the Couch to 5 K program at coolrunning.com is a good graduated program. I'm halfway through and haven't burst a lung or had any pulled muscles. :)

I agree with Roland. Pick something simple you can stick with. I prefer something that's not high aerobic (weights) since I can go at my pace, not the pace of an instructor or leader. Also, consider that every 'fitness' magazine as a 'new improved program' every month. How is this possible? To sell more magazines. Go with something tried and true. Half hour every second day is a great place to start. I always stay awa from trends. Dance is great. High impact is a bad deal. A friend of mine always told me I should be running. I hate running. I refused. He on the other hand has run in marathons for over 30 years. He has knee problems and has had 3 vertebrae fused in his back BECAUSE of running. He still tells me I should be running. You only get one body.

my doctor says- due to my severe osteoporosis - that I should confine my exercise to the water. I started a water aerobics class and while I enjoyed it, it wasn't enough. So I started going early, 30 min RUNNING in place (in the water), 100 Squats on steps (in water), assorted leg and arm exercises (using noodles tied in knots which are like weights in the water and other foam water weights), 3 sets each of 25 reps, and swim laps, pull ups, assorted crunches etc. I do it all at the local YMCA. I get it all done in time to do aerobics class. I burn about 1400 cals in aprox 2 hrs. and I love it everything feels better in the water. You get high resistance, yet low impact on joints. The water feels so good AND NO SWEATING!!

I hate sweating. D'ya think they'd let me bring a set of steel barbells and dumbbells to the pool?

Work on your core. Sore abdominal muscles will remind you of your goal...
