MrsMagyk's Journal, 01 August 2018

My hubby and I went for blood work. Won't know anything until our appointment next week. Weird thing is, they took 2 vials from me and only 1 from him. I guess they could be running different tests? My thinking was he should of had 2 vials because he has high fat in his blood. Can they do different tests with only 1 vial? Does anyone know?

I have never posted a pic of me on here until last night. I had my daughter take pics of me. I was almost 230lbs in the top picture and I am 144.2lbs in the bottom. I still have 6.2lbs to go until I reach my next goal. I'm happy with my results so far, but I think that the final pounds are harder to lose. I'm not losing as much as last month. I would of never posted pics of me until last year. I'm still a bit embarrassed, but here it goes.

Great job👍 In my experience they can run more than 1 test on a vial of blood, as long as the sample volume is big enough 😉

You have no reason to be embarrassed, you are doing great. In response to the vials of blood, sometimes they can run serveral tests on one tube, and other tests require a liquid or powder in them that the blood is mixed with. Blood chemistry is a speckled top tube, purple for blood components, plain red tops for many other tests. It really comes down to what is ordered, and you can ask your doctor what are they testing for.

AMAZING! Plz do not be embarrassed. You look great both then and now. ---------They can run several tests on one vial, some tests only need a drop.

I love to see people's transformations. It gives me hope that I can do it, too. You looked happy and sweet in the first picture and you show a significant loss in the second, so it's all good!

Red tubes are for blood chemistries (sodium, k, kidney function, liver function lipid studies),lavender tubes are for Hemoglobin, hematocrit, cell counts for infections, the blue tube is for bleeding studies, Pt, Ptt, there are other tubes and other tests, but these are the most common.

I wouldn’t be embarrassed if I were you. I’d be rockin it and showin off instead! When I get blood work done every 3 months they take two vials. One for my vitamin d test and the other for my CBC and CMP. The nurse said they could probably do more with those vials but she likes to fill them a smuch as possible and send extra if she can. I’m a bleeder so always joke and tell her tot ale as much as she needs! Oddly enough once the needle is out I stop bleeding in about 2-3 minutes but if I scratch a scab I’ll bleed for 15 minutes :/.

As a phlebotomist who draws blood all day long, I can tell you that multiple tests can be done out of one tube. Chemistry tests, such as a CMP, vit D, thyroid, lipid panel can be done in either a red or gold top tube. CBC and A1C (blood sugar for diabetes) are done in a lavender tube. There are a gazillion other tests and several different tubes, but those are the most common ones.

Thank you all for your kind words and information. I hope the doctor is running a few tests on him. The results may be a wake up call. He did work out today though, so that is progress.
