cls1992's Journal, 30 December 2016

Two months ago I had the surgery to help me lose weight. At the time of my surgery I weighed 298 lbs. I now weight 271 lbs. That's a total of 27 lbs. I am pleased with the loss. My clothes have gotten too big and I am now in a 22 instead of a 28. I'm thankful.

Many people have a misconception of the surgery (including myself). Although it is an aid in losing weight, it is not automatic. The surgery is just a tool. I must still watch what I eat, although I am allowed to eat anything I want. The surgery is just a tool. If I go back to eating like I always ate, I will gain weight, just as before. The difference is the amount I can eat at any given time. It is so much less. If I eat more than a few ounces of food, I may become ill (stomach hurting big time). However, it is rare that that happens because my whole mindset regarding food changed after the surgery.

My desire for food has lessened and although food is still tasty, I can take it or leave it most of the time. The holidays were not hard at all. I lost five lbs over Christmas and Thanksgiving.

I do not regret the surgery. I feel sooooo much better and have more energy. But now I am eating the way they told me I was supposed to eat before I had surgery. It is a challenge, because I still like the same foods. The difference is I am in control of my eating and not my taste buds.
