jmb3450's Journal, 10 February 2016

Got my blood lab results. Mostly good, my HDL cholesterol is up to 73, from 39 a couple years ago. Cholesterol ratio is 2.68, 3.5 is optimal but lower is better so I'm happy about that. However my TSH is high at 5.84. Not unexpected since I stopped taking my thyroid meds when I ran out a few months ago. The doc won't refill unless I go see him so I guess a visit is in order. Hopefully getting back on the thyroid medication will help get me out of the 190's.

I've been working off a gain from poor eating choices over the weekend....partial fasting and low calories yesterday and will do a repeat of that tomorrow. Perhaps I can eek out a small loss for the week, will see how it goes.

I stopped taking my thyroxine because I was at a stall. After about 10 days when I would get up in the mornings, the room was just a spinning. every day got worst than the day before. I started my meds again and the vertigo stopped. I figured it was because I stopped taking the thyroxine. Does any one else have this problem when they stop the meds?

Just went and picked up my husbands Zetia. He changed part D insurance last month. The Zetia our out of pocket was $132.99. last year was $42.00 a month. He goes to doctors next week. He needs to get this changed to something else. We sure can't afford $132.99 a month for 1 script. This is just 1 of 8 meds he takes daily.

@Sweet Georgia Peaches: I'm seeing prices for Zetia generic @ 100/10mg/$84.09 or Brand Name: 28/10mg/$68.29 and 84/10mg/$168.79

@Mahjohn, where are you finding this. This price we paid was thru our insurance. SO HOW DO YOU GET IT WITHOUT INSURANCE AND WHERE. and we was told there is no generic for Zetia.

Forget the chemicals! get you some B3! it controls cholesterol, which, by the way is really GOOD for you. check out Dr. Mike's (on Dr. John Bergman's site) take on cholesterol on YouTube! https://youtu.be/YK3KH7er9f8

The problem with B3, or Niacin, is that in order for it to be effective you need high doses and a lot of people cannot tolerate the side effects of high dose Niacin therapy. Just my two cents.

Jmb, your TSH level can be impacting your cholesterol. There are a few articles out there on this - and I've found it to be true personally.

You can get non flush Niacin. By the way, it also helps with anxiety and bipolar disorder.

@Sweet Georgia Peaches: A number of years ago, Montgomery County, MD became one of a few County Governments to specify that employees should fill prescriptions from Canada to save money. I did some looking around and came up with "northwestpharmacy.com" as a reputable place. I've used them a number of times, my sister has used them to save thousands on asthma meds, and my wife's grandparents were recommended by their doctor in florida to use a Canadian pharmacy to save money and I set them up. Of course you need a prescription, fax or scanned and email. Once it's verified your order is processed and sent... ~ 9 days it takes. The generic form is "Ezetimibe" google that and you'll see it's the generic Zetia. What they should have said was that the generic is not available here in the USA. You have to remember, US consumers pay for drug research, development, and marketing. Other countries have limits on what drug manufacturer's can charge, but not here, they charge what they want. There has been some movement by US drug companies to lobby congress to pass laws banning the import of Canadian drugs, as Americans are saving too much money and they're not making enough profit. Until that time it's perfectly legal.
