NowIunderstand's Journal, 26 June 2015

I'm so, so depressed, Last week, for the first time in a long time, I've counted calories and was so expecting a weight loss. But Of course not, I got a weight gain.

Do you know how much work it was to measure everything?, weight everything? write down everything? log everything? cook everything from scratch? wash everything afterwards and be hungry between meals? but feeling that at least I was getting to my goal. And then added to that the exercises at the gym, sweating, the walking 1 hour a night! (of course you do, you're on FS, aren't you!)

I did it for a whole week and was so eager to weigh in, and thought I had the formula down pat! Hey, I can do this!!! Only 20 lbs to go!!! Sacrifice for the end game!!! I just follow the rules and boom! Just go below the RDI, and you'll get to where you want to go, FINALLY! FINALLY! FINALLY! a lifetime achievement!

I'd given up treats, wine!

I feel so cheated, and I feel that I don't know where to go from here!

I'm having a hard time getting back on that horse. I hate injustices, and I feel that I've been a victim of an injustice. I've done what I,m suppose to do! Where's the reward? Where's what suppose to be mine?

I don't know if its like this for the rest of you, but when I'm in control of my food, I feel I'm in control of my life. When I'm out of control with my food, I feel I'm powerless. There's such a sense of powerfulness when you're accomplishing what you set out to do.

Anyway, I don't know what to do. I'm so fed up!

Sometimes it takes two or three days for the scale to move. Stick with it. You will see the scale drop!

A lot of people go on a binge after they do not see what they expected on the scale, maybe they even lost weight just couldn't see it because of bowel content or water retention but after the binges they ruined their hard work and will need to wait even longer to see positive results. I don't know if you are doing that but if you are, maybe you should start weighing yourself only once a month. Stick with your diet and exercise and then I am sure you will see a drop. Since you are older, no offence, you should probably not have more then 1200 cals per day, your metabolism is slower. The only way you could eat more and still lose would be if you were training for a marathon.

Have you considered making your calendar open to your friends so we can perhaps give suggestions if we see anything that might help?

@Ccerza - my calendar is open to my friends, but that's not where I've been recording my food entries. I know this may sound strange, but I've set up YNAP as a tool for recording my food intake. I've set up 20 lbs as a debt to be paid off. I figured if I saw the balance go down, it would give me a day by day visual, which would be encouragning. @Sne - yes, I somewhat did go on a binge, and fear that've counterbalanced any effort I may have done. @ Deb & Cr - I'm getting back on the horse today. I don't know if I'll track calories. I've just been reading how a low carb targets more the fat around the abdomen, which is where all of mine is. I don't like the way I'm losing weight on a regular diet. I'll look like a chicken. I would be great to lose most of it around the abs.

If you are not eating enough, that could be hindering a drop, also calcium and minerals are very important. Be patient How tall are you? 158 pounds is not bad. I think you will have to kick some major arse in order to lose the remaining weight and my advice is to get a bike with no gears and ride it like hell. It works from my past experience. étreinte

Well if you started exercising along with the diet, it might just be your muscles holding water to help them heal. Google "why the scale lies" for insight in to water weight. Some times we do everything right, but something causes bloating which masks our losses for the week. Weight loss is cumulative. It's what we do over time that counts. Stay on plan and stay consistent. One week is too early to tell if something is working or not. Stay hydrated. Notice how your clothes are fitting. Make a commitment to yourself. This is a life long learning process. Yes, measuring and weighing are hard. But it gets easier as your go along. You can eat what you want or weigh what you want.

I've been below my RDI, but recently I've been eating processed foods. Cereal in a box, canned soup, coffee with sugar and milk etc. I have a sneaking suspicion this is the cause of the weight gain. I don't believe a calorie is a calorie. I don't think the body processed foods the same way once the food is not in it's natural state. Usually I don't gain unless I really go off the diet. This wasn't the case.
