I'm making an effort to up my exercise right now, but it's a struggle. My main problem is fatigue. When I start getting the level of exercise I'd like, it interferes with my ability to work at the level I like to. I literally get so tired at the office in the afternoons that I feel dizzy and nauseous sometimes. Sadly, I rely on Diet Coke and chocolate to remain upright. I'm a go-to person in my office, and I take pride in that. I might have retirement in my sights (621 days, not that I'm counting), but I can't phone it in because I don't want to let anyone down and my boss won't let me. He's a great boss, but he knows what I'm capable of and he asks it of me. I always am told that exercise will end up giving you more energy, but sometimes I feel like the exception to that rule. I have a ton of sick leave in the bank, and I'm thinking I need to start using it on the days I feel that way. He's good about random time off, mercifully.

Can anyone else relate?

Are you sure the nausea and lightheadedness is from fatigue, and not low sodium levels or low blood pressure? I don't know when you exercise, but maybe aim for your lunch hour or right after work instead of the a.m. It is normal to feel a slump around 3 p.m., especially if your lunch was filling.

What kind of exercise do you do? And post workout meal do you eat?

Yes! I feel this in my soul. JustBananas may be on to something - your sodium may be too low to support your current activity level - among other electrolytes. I do an electrolyte drink mix (Ultima brand, the lemonade flavor is really good). Depleted electrolytes can cause wicked fatigue. I buy the box of single-serve sticks to put in 16 ounce bottles of water. I drink one before I work out, then sometimes one after, depending on the intensity of my workout. Also...now that you are working out, you may want to consider/weigh the pro's/coms of upping your protein, or maybe look into a supplement that supports your WOE. But definitely try the electrolytes first - you will feel much better! Mountain biking is hard work!

JB - I almost never exercise in the mornings, because I've been like this for years -- it drains rather than energizes me, and I find it difficult to work. The other day when it happened, I'd gone on an easy, 10-mile bike ride the evening before. Calling what I do a "workout " is probably generous 😜. I get a reasonable amount of sodium and don't have issues with low blood pressure.

Thanks, little_mermee! The fatigue isn't unique to my current WOE. I would get like this before I went mostly vegan. I get a full blood panel every 6 months, and it was perfect the last time. I do try to be very cognizant of potential deficiencies in a (mostly) vegan diet. I think some vegans are way too dismissive of key nutrients that can be more difficult to get. I'm not too worried on the iron, given my last bloodwork, my diet quality, and the fact I'm postmenopausal

superman -- it depends, but probably nothing as intense as you think 😉 Yesterday I did 20 minutes light yoga, walked to/from the pool (45 minutes round trip), and swam 20 minutes. I was beat, and I think I fell asleep by 7 p.m. As for post exercise meal, nothing special.

allegra -- I seem to be averaging about 2000 mg sodium and getting a good level of potassium. That with the bloodwork and the intensity level makes me think electrolytes might not be the problem, but it's definitely something I'll keep in mind if I get to the point where I'm going at it harder. Maybe I'm just out of shape and trying to ratchet it up too fast. 🤔

Erq -- you are right, I need to give up the damn soda. The only place I ever drink it anymore is at the office. Your comment has me thinking, too, that I need to reel in the abusive amount of caffeine I take in. As for a physical, just had one. I asked my doctor last year about fatigue, because I just don't feel like I have the energy I should in general, and she basically said "welcome to menopause" 😜
