NowIunderstand's Journal, 12 December 2014

Now I definitely know that my joint pain is related to the foods I eat.

I've had coffee this week with sugar and milk, every day for (3) days and sure enough, again, at night, on my third day, my knees were killing me.

I don't know if it's the coffee, the milk or the white sugar. I'm betting on the sugar.

Thing is, I find there is no sweetener for coffee that equals granulated sugar, so if the sugar is out, the coffee must be out also.

When I spoke with my doctor, he said, you probably have osteoarthritis, here's a paper for a xray. When I told him that I suspected if was a dietary cause, he shrugged and didn't believe me.

Rare are the doctors that are open minded. They know what they know and we don't know. Even when we do know, they won't listen. I wonder if the word 'indoctrinated' has something to do with that attitude by doctors.

Anyway I'm sharing. If you have joint pains, look into your diet before starting off a regimen of pills.

Tomorrow is weigh in day. I expect I did well. But with the cold weather and the winter storms we've been having, I barely stepped outside. So, no exercising.

I really got to motivate myself to move more, never mind for my weight, for my general health. It's always a struggle for me to be active, time wise and motivational wise. And with cold weather, yuck!

In 2012 my knees hurt so bad I never walked, but my doctor said I had to. Xray showed osteoarthritis. The more weight I lost, the better my knee felt. It was hurting a little today then I remembered yesterday I did not walk much. Now that I am at goal weight, my knee hurts if I sit around and don't walk. Good luck on your weigh in!

You can always do some calisthenics at home, they build muscle too. Good luck with your weigh in :-)

Honestly, 3 days may not be enough time to really establish a link between the joint pain. It might just be a coincidence. But food does have an effect on our bodies, so who knows. You can always try cutting out certain things for a few weeks to see if it helps. Swimming is easy on the joints and there are some videos that you might be able to do in doors which are easy on the body too.

@Suzy: This happened twice, having coffee for a few days (after total abstinence) and then a few nights after having it regularly knees hurting (killing me). Otherwise, I don't feel any pain. And nothing else had changed. If they would hurt without the coffee, then I would not make the link. I may have osteoarthritis, but I think the coffee (+sugar) exacerbates my condition. In fact, I'm now sure of it. But maybe I should try again, just for science's sake! ;)@Deb / I so need to walk, I so like to cocoon. @Snez / I have so many videos and a room set up for it. I really lack will power to drag myself away from my little old maid pleasures ie reading, surfind the internet and tv... it's like the 'I don't feel like it' overpowers the 'I really should'. I'm in a comfort zone I can't seem to get out of.

If this is a repeat, I apologize.. I'm bad about reading comments above. Have you tried honey? Coconut oil? It could also be the milk ... unless you eliminated that from the testing and had coffee/sugar only. Horrors if it is the coffee. While I've decreased my consumption of it, I don't feel right if I don't get at least one cup a day. But agree, it's a small sacrifice if it eliminates pain.
