Most sites/drs/etc. say 1-2 lbs per week is healthy. Hope this month will be my best...11.7lbs so far. Good luck!

I think it does depend on how close you are to your goal. I see 1-3 pounds a month loss and I’m fine w it. The slower we lose the more likely it is we can keep it off.

Biggest loss was my first month on here Bandrie, pretty slow thereafter with a few plateaus along the way...some months no gain was a BIG win...good luck!

I’ve lost 8 pounds in a month but was only eating around 1100-1200 calories a day which as we all know is not sustainable. I’d say a reasonable loss for long term would be about 2-4 pounds a month max. All mine has come back on btw. Having more calories per day now while still eating clean. It’ll take me longer but I’ll feel better and it will stay off longer.

Every one, everywhere pretty much agrees that 1-2 lb a week is a good loss. Greater weight loss in the beginning is typically water weight loss. As you loose weight you have to.periodically recalculate your caloric need because you burn fewer calories just moving body weight around.

Depends how fat you're starting off.

Most is 20+ lbs. lost in a month. I've done it more than once, always at the beginning of a diet. Reasonable? 1-2 lbs. a week. Of course everything depends on your body, your goals. That's just what I would consider reasonable for myself. If I'm really intense about dieting I can easily lose 4-5 lbs. in a week but it's not sustainable for me and I don't like the way it makes me feel.

1-2% of your body weight a week or 1-2lbs per week is the safe weight loss rate I've read in most literature.

Agree with bdixon 100% .. Not the case with everyone, but slow & steady seems to be the best way to keep it off and adjust to a new WOE.

Since my start last October, my 3 biggest monthly losses were 23.6, 23.3, and 22.6. nb, if you have a lot to lose, you can lose a lot. Those losses represented from 6.5% to 8% of my body weight each time. I've lost 35% of my starting weight and want to lose 50%. Those are the typical ground rules in the morbidly obese league. You are not there and that's a very good thing.

wow ... thank you all for your thoughtful responses. Its great to hear about other people's experiences and how you manage and approach things. I think I am averaging 11lbs a month, but like a lot of you have noted, I too had the biggest drop right at the start and now its reducing somewhat. Probably like you say come of that was the water.. and not true. So now its a big push to try and keep on losing.. and its getting ever more difficult. Davidsprincess... you made me absolutely howl with laughter :) Wish you all the best of success on your journey. And Gastropod, You have done so well you must feel very proud of your achievement!! I pray I will only get close to that at some point :)
