SilentHeidi's Journal, 17 June 2013

A total of 3 surgeries and 3 injections since the end of April. I'm now in physical therapy until mid-July. This has definitely been eye-opening and I'm being true and honest to myself about what I should do, versus what I think I can do. I don't want to spend the rest of my 30s in an 180 year-old body.

Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to exercise if it involves any impact or causes any type of resistance against my core muscles. So that means no swimming, elliptical, or yoga. I'm now allowed to ride my bike for a maximum of 16 minutes TOTAL. I'm also allowed to walk no more than 3 laps in a pool. Each week they add a little more to what I can do. Usually, it's only a few minutes on the bike or a half lap in the pool. Frustrating, but I know it will be worth it in the end.

With summer here, the garden is planted and I'm waiting for delicious produce! Haven't really been following a diet. I'm trying to listen to my body and eat when I'm content, not full. Drinking water has never been a problem for me, as that's probably 99% of my liquid intake. I may be fat, but I have amazing skin. Haha!

My focus this week is to cut out meat (I don't like it, but eat small amounts to make people happy, when they're cooking) and remove as many carbs as possible. It just isn't healthy for my body and I have to stop eating food to make other people happy. My oldest minion decided he wants to do cross-country in the fall (just like his mum!) so he's on a training program and diet plan. He's a total carb and meat-lover so this is going to kill him, but I'm right here going through it with him. I love showing him my favorite foods and now that it is all he can eat, he has to eat them! It's a win-win.

Good luck to everyone!

SilentHeidi you sound exactly like me a year ago when I started Fatsecret. Enjoy your recovery for what it's worth. Take your time and go slow. I was restricted for months but in the end I was stronger for it. Eating to make other people happy has also been a challenge for me too. In certain cultures it's considered poor manners to refuse food when it's offered to you. They take it as a personal rejection. What I do sometimes is ask for it to go but unfortunately I usually end up eating it at some point. I'm on the Alternate Day Diet Plan so I plan to have a regular eating day when I know I will be eating with others or will not be able to plan my meals carefully. When it's more of a self serve Buffet style it's a little easier. Hope you reach your goals. Hang in there.
