What a weekend. My boyfriend came down to visit for the long weekend. I got a taste of how difficult it was going to be to eat raw vegan and live with a meat eater. We went to the grocery store together. All I needed was tomatoes and nut milk, and he wanders off to the deli. He comes back with two 8 ounce packages of cheese, two packages of sausage/chirizo, a deli sliced party pack combo of 4 different cheeses, sour cream, 3 family sized cans of baked beans, two packs of deli meat, and a 24 pack of Mountain Dew. With each trip back to the cart, he shows me the spoils of his grocery outing, looking to me for approval and praise. I just nod acceptingly and say how good each thing looks (because I do not want to push my lifestyle on him). His last trip to the cart he states he would like some blue cheese dressing and celery to dip in it, and he browses the dressing selection, asking my opinion about this one and that one.... I finally say "You do realize you are eating all this by yourself, right?" A light bulb went off. He was like...."Ohhhhhh my gawd! I totally forgot you don't eat cooked stuff anymore"....yet, HE PUT NOTHING BACK. We went home with enough food to feed a whole family for the 2 days he was in town. He ate about a third of what he bought, and I lovingly packed every remaining morsel in a bag to go home with him. Not only was it rough to have to cook the foods and watch him eat them, but to realize he also has to change how he eats. He ate nothing but meat, bread, and cheese for 2 straight days. He did eat a couple of the raw vegan meals I fixed, but not much. *sigh*

Good on you for sticking it out!! It's still taking a little time for my boyfriend to realize I am also eating a more strict diet, and he lives with me. Hang in there :)

Good for you for looking after yourself. Try not to be too bothered by his choices--I know it's hard when we make drastic changes and choices for better lives, but those around us don't. He'll either come to it himself, or he won't. As long as you take care of yourself and not be tempted or dragged back into that lifestyle, you'll be fine. Maybe at some point you will both find a compromise somewhere in the middle. When we first make these changes they have to be drastic, I think. But they get easier over time, as they become habit. I know that one day I'll be able to have just one cookie and stop at that. But right now, I just refuse to bake for my boys, because I know if I do, I'm up the creek. It's funny -- I tried a bite of my son's toast this morning, and it just tastes horrible to me now. I haven't had 'bread' in months. Maybe try to steer your boyfried to low-fat, high-carb choices, saying you'll have some, and then don't! ;-) That way, he's getting healthier food. That was one crazy shopping trip! You could always data-crunch your diet for a day and print it out, and then data-crunch his diet for a day, and give him the print-outs of both, telling him you're not trying to change him, but you just want to help him understand the differences between your menus. Maybe that will gently nudge him. Good luck! :-) You're an amazing woman, and you're doing amazing things for yourself. We can do this!!! :-)
