Open Question to All: Why Are We Here? (On FatSecret) or What's Your Mantra?

Some of us are here because we want to get healthier/thinner/leaner/hotter/stronger/toned/etc. But the truth is we've likely all been unhappy with our bodies for a while as the fat creeped up/muscled faded away/health dwindled and then we got to a point and said "HELLO SELF! Do something about this!" And then we ended up here, on Fat Secret.

My question is not about FatSecret but what was your point?

Me personally, I've been a yo-yo dieter in the past, an ebb and flow of self control, self indulgence and self sacrifice resulting in an inconsistent roller coaster of health.

For me it started with little points where I wasn't able to fit into something that I used to love to wear, it became not feeling comfortable in my own skin as my reflection started to show more padding than me, followed by a lack of self esteem because I no longer feel attractive.

My breaking point was that I now feel like my weight is holding me back. I have a laundry list of things that I want to do to have a better life; a happier life. I want to clean out and organize my closet because I'm obviously only wearing part of it. But I don't want to get rid of clothing that I love because I can't fit in it right now so I'm waiting. I want to go cliff diving but I don't feel attractive enough to go in a bathing suit in public so I'm waiting. And waiting.

But for some reason, when faced with a slice of apple pie on the 4th of July, I forget about waiting and eat the stupid pie! I AM TIRED OF WAITING.

So I'm making a mantra, one that I remember everyday, that reminds me of my goal so it's a little easier to stay on track.

A moment on the lips, a month to the list.

What's your mantra?
