if you don't log your food you really don't have any way to know how many calories you have eaten in a day. guessing portion sizes is vastly inaccurate. the site shows a list view of all your calories and your excersize and the difference so you don't have to do all the adding and subtracting. I don't know what kind of diet you are using to know if macro's are important a lot of us do need to keep those at certain levels and balance.
I plan what I eat during the daytime by setting up my dinner, if it is a high calorie meal then I eat lesser calorie foods during the day. It is a helpmate
I struggled for months dieting the keto diet bouncing up and down in my weight. I thought my food portions were much different than I estimated. since I did a bit more research and took advantage of the tools here to figure out calorie needs and my macro's for my diet, things totally changed. I have lost 15 pounds in a month.

I think you may have misread my post. I am completely dedicated to FOOD logging. I understand all reasons to do it, and all its benefits, and I find it very motivating. I find myself not using the ACTIVITY logging feature much.

When my fitbit is working, I log what the total is from the day before. Takes up all 24 hours. Currently I am guessing based on past calorie counts for similar activities - I have a few things that I do consistently. I do use it to track my deficit, and I consider it carefully because I am eating according to calorie in-calorie out and it works pretty much 100% for me. The estimate that Fatsecret gives is not accurate for me so I do use the fitbit numbers.

I found the activity log here difficult. I only log food

i am 80% good on logging my food. Meaning i don't always sit down on weekends and even touch my phone or computer - which is a good thing for me in my opinion. i wear my apple watch religiously and it updates the activity for me automatically. i'm good about turning on the activity tracker in the pool, but sometimes i forget to turn it on when I'm trying to get three large dogs out the door and down the stairs for a walk. i LOVE the rings that remind me to move more each morning and in the evening if i haven't closed all three. all that links to FS for me automatically.

yes I did sorry about that. I set mine at sedentary and log my true exercise only. I have a general lack of muscle tone and while I am pretty active during the daytime, run a fish farm and on my feet a lot, it is basically already included in that setting. and yes for the same reason on food logging it will give you a general idea of your caloric differences. If I want to lose 2 pounds a week verus one pound a week I have to vastly increase my exercise or basically not eat. this helps me with my food logging to stay within my goals. some people who are more athletic will pick a higher setting like litely active and then add their serious exercise.

I personally find logging as much as possible helps me to realise exactly what I am eating vs the exercise for the day. Since starting with the app I have gone from a 120% average calorie intake to about 105% I believed I was eating responsibly (mostly) up until I used the app to count the calories.
Before being on here I was trying to do LCHF and I really struggled with cheating, with the app I now follow the CICO ideal more closely. I also felt horribly guilty any time I cheated and would then go on a binge. So now I can factor in the little treats and I no longer feel guilty and so do not binge. I also use it to fuel my motivation for extra exercise, for instance I knew we were having a BBQ and what I wanted to eat so beforehand I went for a 3 hour bike ride so I could "afford" to eat said BBQ. This month I hope will be my first month where, on average, I will have achieved more calories burnt than eaten; I have been on here since late March '18.
On the downside; I drive my boyfriend crazy weighing things all the time and I will admit it makes cooking and eating a bit of a pain. I don't weigh things like spices and garlic. I do a lot of batch cooking and again that can be a bit awkward as I never follow an exact recipe and so inputting things into the cookbook part of the app isn't much help. I also get a bit annoyed with restaurants that don't upload their nutritional data even though it is not a requirement by law yet. I am also aware that I bore people talking about my calories and when I have to make up my mind about whether something is worth "spending" the calories on. I am trying not to be obsessed with it.
TLDR: I record 95% of what I eat, it helps me figure out what I can have without feeling guilty or binging. It can be a bit of a pain when eating out and when you home cook a lot. I know I irritate people banging on about calories and when I weigh things.
Hope this helps your decision :)

I don't use the exercise logging portion - yet. I might later. Right now I just use the app to plan my menu so I know what I can eat for the day and stay below my chosen level of calories.

I consider my calorie deficit. I log almost everything I do so that I can see what the deficit is each day: my goal is at least a 500 calorie deficit every day so I can actually "see" that I'm doing what I need to do to lose weight. If I can rack up a few calories for playing video games on my computer, I'm on it!

Consider everything, but make sure u understand that ur nutrition will dictate whether you lose or gain body fat. Weights will make sure u don’t lose and even build muscle. And cardio is a waste of time.

Just kidding cardio is ok, but weights are 100 times better

What I do is log the big things like weight training and cardio then log in the rest of my 24 hours with sleep and sitting. I was super diligent about logging both food and activity in April and my deficit for the month very closely matched my weight loss.

I log the big items - work, standing, walking and my work outs. Yard work on the weekends - that kind of stuff. I use this as a guide to help me see where I am at with my intake vs output. This isn't a super accurate program so I keep that in mind. It really just helps me pay attention for planning meals and making sure I don't go over on my targets.

I connect my fitbit watch to my app on the phone and it tracks it all. When I was logging my own, I felt like it was WAY too much, but I listed everything I did, including sleep. I averaged over 5000cals a day burned, now, I average around 2600 give or take.

I log all my foods here and let my iPhone/watch share my health app with FS. I’m not “anal” about what exercise I get but do strive to hit a minimal # of steps per day. I mostly need to be accountable to myself of what goes into my mouth 👄 and that what makes FS so great.

I log everything daily at random time, sometimes after I eat or at the end of the day before sleep, I log my foods and my excercises, even small activities that add burned calories. If I forgot to log in the same day, I log everything the next day, yes I still can remember what I do and what I eat around 24 hrs, if it longer than that I let it go blank and start again to do it daily again for another day. I think it really important to me to do so, I can make sure at least I am in calories defisit. Good luck for the poll :)

I'll have to try to link the fitbit with iphone then fs wasn't aware that would work
