My A1C is due at the end of May. I'm hoping it's 5.4, or lower.

Thank you everyone I have high hopes my A1C will be lower as my CGM shows a trend of 507 right now and I was 6.8 in February so we will see next week. Jdode best wishes on your A1C being lower.

Golfgirl... I'm 70 and I've been low carb since 2019. The Facebook group, Reversing Diabetes type 2 has been a big help. 30g carbs per day, but no weight loss while all other members dropped 22 lbs per month. However, my bsl came down to 5.4 right away. No weight loss in 5 years because I'm hyperinsulin resistant. No weight loss when I started Trulicity a year ago. A few months ago, I went carnivore and lost 16 lbs right away. Now, I alternate between carnivore and low carb to achieve weight loss. I'm thinking of doing light weight lifting to burn calories for weight loss, as it worked for me in 2007. Even though my cholesterol is high, my carotid echograms showed no plaque. I won't take statins unless I have placque. Good luck on your new A1C. How do you like the CGM?

I like the CGM because it takes the guess work out of preparing meals. I have high cholesterol and high triglycerides so i am eating for that and diabetic low carb diet, hope it works as you can see I have dropped 26 pounds since I joined FS in January.

SDLE... Nothing breaded and processed. I will eat any meat that I enjoy, and can afford. Thankfully, I love air fried drumsticks with a bit of caramelize bbq sauce. Pan seared pork steaks. BACON! Pork butt roast. Brats, although its hard to find them without carb additives. Salmon filets. Crayfish etouffe served over thinly sliced steamed cabbage. Beef patties on a 90 second bun with lettuce, onion and coniments..

It's too bad that all diabetics aren't required to use a CGM. So many don't understand how their way of eating affects their blood sugar levels. When I was first diagnosed 20 year ago, I tested 5-6 times a day, so I could see the effects of food. My doctor said I didn't need to do that. He wanted me.to follow the ADA diet. Thank goodness I didn't, or I'd be like.my younger cousin with 5 toes amputated.

I cannot imagine what diabetes is like. I know two people who have developed Type 2 in their 20s…and only one of them is obese enough for people to notice! So young…and even Type 2 is not always a person’s fault. Even eating habits are often not (completely) a person’s fault, only partially, or not at all if someone else is doing something *really* bad to them. Corporate greed *is* the companies’ fault though, and continuing bad eating habits supports those companies. A lot of people think you can only make a difference if you make a global difference—as in, if you are vegan. They’d be wrong. A local, smaller difference can be made even just by eating less processed foods.

Jdode, I didn't get my metabolism under control until I stopped trying to do it the ADA way. For decades, I slowly gained in fact. It is the fault of our modern, mechanized, artificially flavored and chemically altered food supply, combined with too many 'helper' appliances, the advertising industry, the pharmaceutical industry, and corporate food control. Bring back the small farms, dog more community gardens, and teach kids how to play outside in the dirt and work a little too with their growing bodies.

I do CICO, no forbidden foods, just moderation. My A1C dropped from 6.1 to 4.8. Carbs represent about 40% of my diet.

Gopherit, I hate to admit this to myself, but…you’re right. We lie to ourselves. Nutrition is important, but…nutrition is not even half the equation. You have to grow some of it yourself too, go outside plenty, and more…and even resist the urge to use to make anything easier…
