Wisco Soul's Journal, 15 May 2023

Well, I haven’t weighed in for 14 days. Yeowzers! I haven’t even been on here for 14 days, and I haven’t logged any food since forever. I suppose that a 1.2 gain seems like a lot. But I don’t think it is. I haven’t been logging or weighing out my food. And definitely haven’t been getting in the movement that I normally do. So, I see it as a win that it wasn’t 12.2 like it was at the end of semester last May. For whatever reason, the end of semesters seem to always be the craziest and most stressful time of the whole year, and school is only about 30% of that stress. It’s like the universe waits till the last two weeks come and hits me with the load of what-the-crap it’s been holding on to. The last two weeks have included a death in the family, my youngest very ill, one of my poochies very ill, obligations I made in February to be fulfilled (note to self….NEVER schedule ANYTHING in the first two weeks of May ever again!!!), and multiple chronic and not so chronic health problems to add to the fun that is the last two weeks of the semester and finals. When I see the 1.2 gain, I see it as a success because that means I put myself in maintenance during the last two weeks using the habits I have developed over the last year. It’s also a gain from a ton of stress and lack of movement. That 1.2 gain is a huge NSV, ironically enough, because it means I didn’t backslide and I, not my food addiction, is in control here. That is huge for me! Last May, I gained over 10 pounds at the end of semester and was extremely ill because I wasn’t in charge of my body, my addiction was. I am so proud of myself for achieving this milestone. It is even better than stepping on the scale and finding a five-pound loss. It means I can do this, even during the hardest, craziest, most stressful times. It means I can keep the changes I have made, not start over at square one, and continue on with my journey of health and become the better, healthier version of myself I’ve been working toward. It only took 48 years to figure this out.
