Telemarketers have taught Americans to be rude.
I want to tell you dear diary, that my pool construction is complete for this season. All closed up till Spring. The pool company is contracted to open/close for two years to insure that all is working properly.
I have to say it looks perfect. I doubt I have been this happy with workmanship since Y2K. Oh, the concrete slab tickles my fancy. BTW, I love concrete. Living in the woods I don't get a lot of exposure to man made stuff, but, we are very happy with our choice for the new patio.
I know it's corny, but we put our initials in the wet cement. Yes sir, we will take ownership for these decisions. Proudly.
I'll be looking forward to "opening day" next year. We'll be at the mercy of the pool company.
We decided that it was so late in the season we would just closed the pool without filling it. The pool people provided 2 truckloads of water but that only fills it about 2/3 full. We decided to let Mother Nateue fill it the rest of the way with rain snow etc over the winter instead of us running our electricity, pump, chemicals to fill it just to empty again for winter prep.
I have been uncomfortable about the money we spent to make these property improvements. Now that I see the finished (almost) product, I am throwing caution to the wind. Hooray.
During the pool construction, we discovered that our wisteria vine roots (which covers our arbor over our deck) are growing iunder the patio moving towards the underground pool structure. So now, my 2nd most valuable possession has to be removed. This is almost as tragic as losing my cat. There is no doubt that I am a tree hugger, ergo I have actual feelings about my wisteria and the shade and coolness it provides during the summer heat. "A tree who looks at God all day, and lifts her leafy arms to pray." Joyce Kilmer. My newest dilemma. This dream house we built for our retirement is testing my pocketbook and patience. Go with God ...or if you prefer, ...the wind. Sarah

Awww...sorry you are losing your wisteria. I'm pretty attached to the trees we planted when we built our home. Enjoy that dream house!

That pool sounds amazing! I wish our climate could support wisteria, I fell in love with them when I visited Europe! Some folks we were traveling with said they are "weeds" in their area and they pull them out!!!??? Oh well, I love them, but then I am kinda a tree hugger too! :)

I love wisteria, too, but they are SO aggressive and can be destructive. They grow wild around here, and in the Spring, there are curtains of lavender blooms all along the roadways. Your pool and deck sound great!

The wisteria door closed, but why not open a new one with giant planters and stuff them with potted plants? Very pretty hobby, burns calories gardening, and you can't eat while using garden gloves!

Maybe you could transplant some of your wisteria far from the house where it can't invade your structures, but where you could still see and enjoy it.

Sorry about your tree, Sarah! That is cool about the pool. We just have a standing Jacuzzi, and lots of trees and bushes, which bothers our neighbors, who also have a pool. We wanted to build a higher fence. We paid 3k just to trim trees, and they need it again. It makes the place beautiful, but what a cost.

"A tree who looks at God all day, and lifts her leafy arms to pray" Oh how I love that! Being a tree lover myself, I can imagine how hard that would be to lose. I'm sorry to hear that! A pool on the other hand sounds lovely!
