I have noticed something recently in my inner circle that is interesting to me. Aside from myself, my uncle and my friend's mom were both diagnosed as diabetic in the past twelve months.
Uncle Dave changed his eating style accordingly and began taking medicine (from what I have seen, but his diet is different than mine)
I completely changed the way I eat, I take the medicine and I work out more
But my friend's mom still eats sugary things, drinks wine etc and I've found this annoying, though I'm not sure why. I understand a diet change can be hard and it's not my business but this is someone I am close to who is choosing just to take the pills and not taking any further action to get herself healthy when she knows she has a problem. Maybe it's because of the way she had talked when she was first diagnosed ("Regardless, I consider myself to be diabetic, not just prediabetic")
I just wish I could help people make the best choices even though I know I can't

I know. I can be very sad but you must take care of yourself because YOU CAN! Maybe one day they'll see something good you are doing and start doing it too. We can only hope. My brother-in-law's father chose to ignore his diabetes and after two amputations, he went into hospice but had to live with his decisions. Some people can do it, others can't. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!

In the end we can only be responsible for ourselves. It's terrible to watch people destroy their health or not care about their health, but it's their decision. My father has been a Diabetic for about 30 years now. He tried changing his diet in the beginning and then slipped back into old bad habits. He is 81 and I've pretty much say nothing to him about it. It's his life and his body, but it does make me feel bad he just doesn't care. That's the problem with a lot of folks. They don't see a need to change if they can just "take a pill" to make it all good again. I agree with you........Diabetic is Diabetic especially if you have to take a pill. Fortunately, I escaped the Diabetic dx. It is rampant in my family.
