That tooth I had fixed is acting up, so soft food is on the agenda until I can call the dentist Monday. Decided to try making vegan cottage cheese (tofu-based). It's not bad! Could become a morning staple.

I hope so, too, Morticia!

I’ve been using a small tube of sensodyne they gave me until my new tooth settled. It does actually work to some degree. It may not fix anything, but the sensitivity is decreased.

Tooth pain is the worst!!! Sidenote? Have you heard of seitan? If yes, have you made it and how? I bought some last night and just heated it up in a frying pan and it was ok but i bet there is a way to make it yummy and you may be the person that knows!

Thanks, Katsolo. I use Sensodyne on a regular basis as I have sensitive teeth to begin with. This is something new -- it wasn't all that bad until a couple of days ago. Getting some pretty major zingers when it gets touched wrong. Not as bad as when it was broken, but a similar feeling. Hopefully I'll be able to get in Monday to get it looked at

Thanks, YOH. I make seitan all the time! Dry ingredients: 1 1/4 cups gluten, 1/4 cups nutritional yeast and whatever spices I'm in the mood for. Wet ingredients: 1 1/4 cups veggie broth and 2 tablespoons tahini. Mix up the dry ingredients, stir the broth/tahini well, and add wet to dry. Mix to combine, then knead about 5 minutes until it's a little rubbery. Form into a log, wrap tightly in foil and bake in a 350 degree oven 45 minutes, then flip over and bake another half hour. Like tofu, it will take on the flavor of however you spice it. I often use the "Not Beef" and "Not Chicken" vegan bouillon to make the broth. I also mix up an Italian sausage seasoning to use in it that my husband loves, or I'll use "Not Chicken" and poultry seasoning to make it taste a bit like chicken. If you make it, clean up right away or you'll hate life. The stuff sets up like concrete. It WILL ruin scrungies and dish rags. I scrape as much as I can off with a metal spoon and then have a dedicated scrub brush that I try to pick clean afterward. Other people use rags. I recommend against wooden spoons for mixing

Thanks writing! I bought the pre-made kind in the organic section of the store (i am handi-uncapable when trying to make things from the ground up in the kitchen…also dont like to so there’s that😂). That’s what i was wondering how to prepare? Do you think would be good as a substitute in a chicken chili?

YOH - to continue, you can throw seitan through a food processor until it gets a ground beef texture and use it as a substitute. I made a Cincinnati chili with seitan for an office potluck once, and one of my coworkers didn't realize it was meatless 😂

Depending on the flavor you buy, I think it would work great in a chicken chili 😋

I actually made "chicken" pot pie with seitan recently that was fantastic. It's not really a stand-alone food, but it goes great in flavorful dishes

Hope it’s nothing. Mine is settling in, but i totally get the zingers thing because i still have to be careful - or else.

Hope your tooth is better. I like tofu....

Thanks, StormsGirl 😊 The vegan cottage cheese is just silken tofu blended with nutritional yeast, cider vinegar, lemon juice and salt with extra firm tofu crumbled into it after it comes out of the blender. So, like regular cottage cheese, it packs a protein punch

Thanks, liv. If you want to try the recipe, it's from the It Doesn't Taste Like Chicken website. Katsolo, I hope it's nothing as well. I'll know more tomorrow. It's not quite as severe as the pain the couple of days I was running around with it broken, but it feels similar to that
