We went on a sort of impromptu trip up to gold country to spend the day whitewater rafting on the American River. I had never done that before and I had such a fantastic time.
I ate some wonderful meals this weekend. We found a charming local cafe near our hotel and had a delicious dinner there on Saturday night. I was at the mercy of the rafting company for lunch yesterday, but they came through for me. They had wraps--a line up of veggies and some meat and cheese as well as several condiments and sauces to choose from. While they were setting up lunch, they handed each group a can of Pringles (my old nemesis!), but I had been rowing all morning, so I did not hesitate for a minute. (Speaking of which, I was unsure how to record my exercise, as I found no choices on FS that fit, but I figured I was paddling at least half the time, so I entered rowing for a couple hours. Myfitnesspal said that whitewater rafting for 6 hours was over 2000 calories, so my 3 hours of rowing entry doesn't look so outlandish!) The family was starving by the end of the day and stopped at a steakhouse on our way back home. I ate too much bread and then followed up my big meal with a piece of chocolate cake that we all shared.
It was a fantastic experience and our family all loved it. I felt so good, so fit all day, paddling through the rapids. Although my muscles are not happy with me today, I could feel how all that gym time has paid off.
