wholefoodnut's Journal, 06 July 2015

Well, my week has just turned upside down. A ton of rain in a short time,, the sewer backed up flooding about 1/2 of my basement with up to 2 inches of water. Hoping most drains out the single drain overnight.

Looks like I will be staying home tomorrow, have a call into my SIL to see if he can do a water extraction, sanitize, and whatever else we need to do. He has a carpet cleaning and water extraction business. Will also be calling the insurance company to see if I'm covered. He's probably out on calls tonight with the 4-5 inches of rain that dumped on us and it's still raining though not heavy.

I simply cannot face doing it tonight. I did take some photos.

I guess my gym plans changed for tomorrow but will get a different type of workout. Heading for bed tomorrow will be a long and not fun day.

Glad the weather radio is quiet, after a couple hours worth of constant warnings earlier, the tornado sirens went off for about an hour.

More rain is expected everyday this week..

Oh my goodness! That is not a fun place to be. Get an estimate before calling you INS co. if it is below your deductible for cleanup then you don't get the potential INS hikes that inevitable come. My Husband worked for an INS co for years before we retired to go our own business.

Mike, my SIL who has a business in the water extraction and carpet cleaning will be here today. I need to dig out my insurance policy, I know it covers some things with water I think the sewer is one. It's not his fees, if any, that I'm concerned about it's the damaged furniture and replacing carpet etc. I have to take a saner look this am. I will venture down there after I've had coffee. Take photos before I touch anything as all the furniture has to be moved out. This means hundreds of cones of thread packed into boxes before the 3 floor to ceiling shelves can be moved and 2 more full of quilting supplies. It's my quilting studio and spare bedroom that are hit the worst. It will be a day for my mud boots in the basement LOL.

Lots of pluses as I have no major damage. If anything I have to replace a book shelf or 2. SIL can take care of the carpet and odor later this week once it is dried out. He did his magic today with his big suction machine to take most of the water out that was remaining. Just a pain dealing with the cleanup. Back at it in a few....

Exhausted 14,000 + steps today. I can take a shower in the am. YAY!! Going to bed with fans running in the basement, the AC on frigid to keep the basement air moving. The house smells like a septic tank but all is basically good. The smell will be gone in time, once Mike can clean the carpets. No major damage. Took next door neighbor for BBQ it was really good. A nice break in my day. A fairly new place but there long enough to get the kinks worked out. I will go back. Good food and service, prices were reasonable. No gym tomorrow I need to come home from work and keep working, more to do. After the carpets are cleaned put it all back together. Sheesh!! Not planning on this.
