KSttride's Journal, 30 June 2011

I've felt much more like myself for the last two days. I've still been a bit tired but not so much that I've needed to crash for a nap. It feels like its been forever but has only been 8 days since the surgery. Hard to believe. I'm not trying to lose weight but it seems to be falling off at the moment. I know - don't complain!!!! :) I'm sure I'll be back to trying to get it to budge in about a month.
My husband asked me last night when I would be able to eat "normal" food. When I asked him what he meant the answer was normal fatty foods. The Dr. said low-fat until I see him in about 7 days. The only things I haven't added back into my diet are some nuts, oils, legumes and cheeses. I'm still adding vegetables and fruits each day. I do need to add grains but just have not felt like doing a lot of cooking. I haven't eaten "normal" fatty foods for a very long time; months really. Anyway if he meant true junk food the answer will be never! He brought brownies that my Mother-in-law made home tonight and he will be eating them all! I appreciate the thought but no, no, no! (It helps that I don't like nuts in them and invariably she always adds them. :) )
So.........back, aware, awake and feeling no pain!!!!! :)

I'm so glad your recovery is going well and you are feeling better! I'm sure your "normal" appetite will return soon. As for the doctor nixing fat foods until you see him, isn't fat in the diet one of the things that contribute to gall bladder disease? Anyway, it's a good thing you don't like nuts in brownies! There's not much there that would be good nutrition for you! You must be feeling a bit antsy by now, so I hope you continue to heal and recover in good time. Thank you for the update! Sending you lots of hugs to speed your recovery!

Definitely glad you're feeling better, Karen. I had emergency gall bladder surgery two years ago, and avoiding high fat really helps.

MSL- Yes I'm feeling much better! I do think my appetite is slowly coming back but the calories are still a little low. I'm working on it! :) This whole thing was completely a surprise and I'm still collecting information about gall bladder disease. My regular Dr. never saw me right after one of the attacks so he didn't have any blood work to check. Since I did not eat lots of fried foods and high fat meals, gall bladder disease wasn't at the top of his list. By going to the ER and having all kinds of blood tests done they were able to pin it down. I will never again vacillate about going in when I think I need to. I am also "thrilled" she keeps adding nuts to those brownies! ;) No real temptation to me as long as they are there. I am going to be finally getting out for a while tomorrow! Driving is going to feel strange after not doing it for so long. Thanks for all your good wishes and sending you hugs right back!!!!!!! :)

Thanks Heather! Yes, I'm feeling much better! I'm sorry you had to have the surgery as well! I'm even more sorry that you likely had the pain that precedes it!!!!!! I do not wish that on anyone. If you have any suggestions about what to avoid/do etc. just PM me or reply to this. I know it's different for everyone but like I said before, I'm collecting info. Since I had this I've found out that my Dad, Mom, and Mother-in-law all had the surgery. I knew about my Mom but didn't realize about the others. As far as I know they have never had any problems. I've got my fingers crossed! :) I hope you are doing well!

I am doing well, but you're right. I do remember the pain before. It was like nothing I've ever felt before, and I can tolerate a LOT of pain before it puts me down. I feel worse for your parents and MIL. Laparascopic procedures are fairly recent. They probably had it a lot worse than us. I have no particular advice, just that you, I was told to stay away from fatty foods. I've never had a problem since. Hope your getting back to yourself soon!
