Some days it pains me to be honest about my logging, but dishonesty won't get me anywhere. Trying to pretend I didn't eat what I ate makes as much sense as Trying to fix the car by putting electrical tape over the check engine light so I can't see it.

That's the way I feel about it, too. I try to be as transparent as possible to see if I can notice habits/trends, etc. After three months of brutally honest logging, I discovered I have a really hard time staying on track during the second half of my cycle (luteal phase) - especially if I'm drinking too much caffeine and not engaging in good self-management during the first half (follicular phase)! TMI I know, but I totally get your need and desire to be transparent.

Uh-oh. Is Hubs baking again? 😬 I get it about the self honesty. I don't bother with tracking food/calories, but I do publicly post my lab results. Because I'm not on any medications, the tests are a full disclosure of my body fat percentage/BMI, my exercise, and the food that I'm consuming. I show it all for accountability to myself. By putting it out there (on FS), I'm also letting other dieters know what can heal or harm; I am the Guinea Pig, and blood tests track it all.

are1981 -- I also had cyclical cravings before menopause. I'm pretty relieved not to have to deal with that any more. JustBananas -- no, not the hubs. Just a stress-induced chocolate freakout at the office. I'm someone who seriously needs to be retired. I'm a lot happier and take better care of myself when I'm home. Navywifeski-- thanks for stopping by!

I have definitely learned that the times I don't want to log my food are exactly the most important times to log. Also, when I weigh myself and my weight has jumped 2+ pounds overnight I think for a second - why log this weight on FS? It's probably just water weight, why look like a failure? Again, this is the most important time to log my weight in FS. It is easy for one lapse to become the beginning of the end. The key here is that, since I've decided to weigh daily, I must follow through. If I decided to weigh weekly, then I would have to stick to schedule and if the weight on the designated day was higher than I liked, I couldn't "shop around" for a day when the scale and I were getting along better.

Zapotz -- so true. I try to think of all my food and weight logging as data to analyze and use to make decisions rather than as any measure of my worth. If you want valid conclusions, you don't want to fudge the data. StormsGirl -- glad to know I'm not the only one who feels this way!

That's true writingwyo, by logging everything that goes in my mouth, if I gain it helps me to look back at what I ate yesterday, and not repeat that combination of food. Thanks for sharing.
