Rockiesfan's Journal, 15 August 2014

Today is Friday should be a busy day since i am off work. One thought I had is I read on here how everyone is eating clean, doing atkins, weight watchers, HCG shots whatever that is. When I myself have been trying to just readjust and eat in the real world meaning yes sometime I eat some stuff that people would be like why are you eating chicken fried steak n eggs because I like it, am I eating a tom of it know, when I eat cookies I have two and that is it, I will not deprive myself of something I want, that is why I think I am eating in the real world here yes I do count and watch my calorie intake and will continue to do that but if I want ice cream I am going to have a little, if I want a beer, tacos. etc. for me it boils down to eat in moderation count my calories, exercise, and be honest with myself in doing so, and so far that is working for me I also try to eat consciously meaning I eat slow put my fork down after a bite and chew it, if you go out to eat take a minute and watch people eat they put bite after bite in without finishing what they are chewing. Sorry for the rant just my thoughts for the day.

Have a Great weekend everyone

I honestly think it depends on the person and the point that person is in the journey. I used to be perfect with eating Atkins.... never strayed.... yet I couldn't lose much weight and once I did, it came bac without me changing anything. I think the body adjusts to whatever you are doing and success is not totally dependent on what you eat. There are some things that I just can't eat... If I do, I will start craving more and more food... moderation is just not possible for me if I eat certain things. But I have to live in the real world.... So for me, eating as clean as possible is the key. Plus holding myself responsibke for my actions and getting back up when I fall. I rarely drink these days but when I do - I am going to drink as much as I want. I want this new body and health so I can have fun and do things. If I limit everything I eat or drink all the time then where is the fun in that? So - I think I agree with you for the most part. I just think we all have to figure out the triggers for us and avoid them where we can.... Figure out what we can have in moderation and do that.... and totally be mindful of what we are eating. And - Yes this is me talking - we have to figure out how to move and exercise and sweat in a way that is sustainable. otherwise no matter how skinny we may be, we will not reach the goal of being healthy. Skinny doesn't climb mountains, healthy and fit does. I want to climb....

I agree 100%....I think the only way to be successful in this is to find something you can do for the rest of your life, a lifestyle change....if you can do Atkins or something like that forever, more power to you, I wish I had that will...BUT your body will eventually get used to it so you will have to adjust no matter what you are doing...I would rather though eat in moderation, making healthy substitutions I can live with rather than limit myself...

Buddah says it is not the destination but the journey that brings you joy (I am sure he says it much more eloquently than that). So I am learning to enjoy the journey :) One day at a time.

I am also eating in the real world as you say. I have no problems with limiting myself to only a cookie or two, I will not eat the whole box. I plan ahead what I'll be eating for the day. If something unexpected comes along, like yesterday a piece of cake than I'll just adjust my calorie intake for the rest of that day. It's all about moderation.

Rockiesfan: I so agree with you. Losing weight is hard, but maintaining is just as hard. By losing weight in the real world way, it does make it easier to maintain. I did lose this (same) weight years ago, and kept it off until just recently, by doing exactly as you described. The end of 2013 included two daughters' weddings (6 weeks apart), job issues, and all kinds of other things... I survived the hectic year but after the world calmed down, I relaxed too much and oops - that dang 20 pounds came to visit again in 2014! Now that I am back to counting calories in and out... real world diet... the weight is once again leaving. Real world... but real world with attention and discipline!

All that is wonderful and I am so glad for you guys. But I can't limit myself to 1 or 2 cookies... I will eat the box. That is a trigger for me. Anything sweet makes me uncontrollable. So I stay away from sweet things except I will allow myself certain fruits. It seems to me that it is all about being aware of our bodies and what we are doing. You know you can have 2 cookies - I know I can't... but we just have to take those things into consideration and find ways to work around the issues.

Reading all this (including the comments), make me feel really happy that I'm not craving anything (seriously!). Somehow I can easily refuse cake or icecream or whatever, since I only like it when it's homemade. Strangely enough storebought cookies, cakes and icecream gives me a very nasty sour taste in my mouth. So I stopped eating that. I'm so blessed. :) But yes, I'm like ALL of you: when I feel like eating something, I just do it. And if it's still possible to adjust the rest of my daily intake, I will. If not: I'll compensate the next day(s). I'm keeping track of my weight and intake on a weekly average base. So yes: I'm really happy with what I'm eating. It's balanced, it's healthy and it makes me happy. If only I would loose some weight....... LOL! Again, Rockiesfan, you're a great example to a lot of people. You're doing wonderful! Less than a kilo to go...........

I'm with you Rockiesfan. I working at aligning my eating habits with food choices so when I reach goal weight there shouldn't be a big transition, For me it's tracking the calories in verses calories out. When controlling calorie intake, you learn quick enough how much ice cream, cookies or beer you can have in a day and still keep on track. Enjoy

I'm with you, Rockiesfan. No weird diets for me either. Just kept track of portions and how much I ate. I still enjoyed cake, cookies and anything I wanted. Just in moderation. I'm 5 lbs. from my goal. Great job! .

i have recently stumbled upon so much real information on how we SHOULD eat. figure out your TDEE, eat that to maintain, eat at 10-15% cut to lose. balance out you macros. no one seems to understand the importance of protein and just how much you really need. Why suffer and starve yourself on 1000 calories a day when you can enjoy food and eat 2000 calories a day and still lose fat! read this yesterdy and want to share so hopefully more people will have the ahahh moment i did and start researching how to actually feed yourself instead of fad diets that are slowly killing you. "in order to lose weight and lean out your body needs to be in a caloric deficit. HOWEVER, you want to diet on as many calories as possible so that if and when your body hits a plateau, you can easily make adjustments. if you start your diet at a HUGE caloric deficit, you send your body into shock. then you experience a large energy gap (which feels awful) and leave no room to make adjustments in you program when you body stops responding. so many people are unaware of just how many calories their body actually needs and then eats too little."

Yes! You're eating for life, not just a fad diet. Keep it up!
