I know that if I am following the Atkins correctly, I have nothing to worry about. But I feel that I am eating to many calories in trying to meet carbs. Therefore I am trying not to freak myself out for my weigh in on Sunday. I know that slim fast is not part of Atkins but I had to have one today to ease my mind and the number of calories I was taking in. So we will see Sunday if I dont take a peek before then. but I am to scared to peek.

Scby you got to have more faith. It's not about the calories. It's about the quality of the food you eat. Count your carbs, not your calories. Slim Fast is full of sugar. You have to focus on calories OR carbs not both, or you will drive yourself mad. LOL! How many carbs a day are you eating?

I am going mad. But i ate a lot of eggs, sausage, cheese and salad and still did not meet may carbs. I guess that is what made me scared because I have never ate that much to try and lose weight. Right now I am working on doing phase 1 of Atkins which is 20-22 carbs about 15 have to be vegetables.

I see. Well, the protein is to keep you full plus you can eat vegetables, except for potatoes. I guess one salad isn't enough. Don't be afraid to eat three meals a day and add veggies to each meal along with protein.

You have to be careful not to have too much protein too. Too much protein is very hard on your liver and kidneys - also it's high in cholesterol. I teach college Anatomy and Physiology.

If you dont eat too many carbs, the cholesterol isnt a problem. People following a low carb diet tend to not have cholesterol issues. Mine goes down when I eat low carb/high fat.

Since losing 44 lbs. and following Atkins for 10 months I am no longer on cholesterol meds. I really believe that my daily 3 miles walks also played a hugh part in getting off the med. I was on cholesterol med for many years, but NO more!

I hope this link works, if it doesn't try Googling this "Heart surgeon speaks out on what really causes heart disease" http://www.sott.net/article/242516-Heart-surgeon-speaks-out-on-what-really-causes-heart-disease

Veg Up! Don't worrying about fats, stay between 1500-1800 calories, keep sodium under 2400. Make sure your settings show this, BIG help, GL!

Atkins original plan, the plan I go by because he was alive then and had control of what his diet was, didn't count calories. I have just looked up a Slimfast chocolate royale shake. It has 24g total carbs (19 net carbs?) That bottle alone would be over your limit for induction. I really think you should have courage, stick to the Atkins plan, if you are trying New Atkins New You, maybe you could have a look at Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution, if you are interested I can possibly guide you to a PDF of it :) The body can shake our confidence when it doesnt lose weight and you need to red the book and know how your body works and what the Way OF Eating really entails. And drink water, it helps flush out the end result of fat burning (which you wont be doing if you aren't in Ketosis because you are having too many carbs if you have Slimfast shakes). OK? :D

It can be found on 4shared OR as a pinned post on Facebook in the group Atkins Diet Fan Club. Once downloaded, if you ¨, you can get it converted for Kindle (VERY HANDY) by finding your specific Kindle email address. In your mail app attach the PDF to it, put your Kindle address in the address field and put the word convert in the subject field. Job done :)

didn't atkins die of a heart attack?? lol.. I did atkins for a while too. Lost a lot of weight on the induction phase. but I looked up low carb diets and I did see that it is hard on the kidneys among other things. be careful. but yes you can have as much veggies and meats.. the key is counting carbs NOT calories. If you read the book it explains it all in there.

this was from a site I was looking at, I think this is if you do it long term though: They carry some risks, according to experts. Restricting carbs makes it difficult to get the recommended amounts of whole grains, fruits, and vegetables, so it's possible you'll come up short on fiber, potassium, calcium, and other key nutrients. Low-carb diets that are high in saturated fat may also hurt your heart, increasing cholesterol and raising the risk of heart disease and stroke. None of the low-carb diets evaluated by U.S. News ranked among the top five diets for heart healthy. Finally, side effects of low-carb diets include weakness, nausea, dizziness, constipation, irritability—and bad breath.

LMAO! Sorry. Dr. Atkins did NOT die from a heart attack. He died of a head injury on a slippery sidewalk outside his clinic at age 72. The year prior to this he reported to the public he did have cardiac arrest due to a heart infection (genetic) and it was NOT diet related. The side effects you mention are from the "carb flu" when you first start low carb eating. The body is shifting from burning carbs to burning fat. It is temporary! It lasts for a few days to a few weeks. Also, even Dr. Oz now admits the "good fats" are important for bodily function. I think the information that Kate is reading must be from a few years ago. Scientific research has proven low carb is actually good for all bodily functions and not the opposite.

Really I read that he died from a heart attack? Information changes day by day. One min they tell you to do this.. then they find that is wrong and then change it again. so who knows.

I stand corrected about the heart attack, it said that it was a falsehood that was spread about him after he died from some dude..
