Hi FS Buddies - well I had a bad night last night. No binge eating for 2 weeks, did a 42 hour fast on Monday and then yesterday I baked a cake for my bf's bday. I did not eat the cake. I didn't lick the icing off of my fingers. I didn't eat the chocolate chip cookies I made him on Sunday.
Sigh
But last night I couldn't sleep, I was hungry, and I got up at midnight. I ate some bacon, some cheese, and some bologna. Bologna is no good b/c it has high fructose corn syrup. But the real problem is after that I binged out on corn flakes.
I still didn't touch the cookies or cake which is the good part.
I could feel the battle in my head as I grabbed those corn flakes. My head was screaming "Don't do it! You don't want to eat that!" and the other part of me was saying "Screw it, shut up, who cares".
This morning I paid for it with high fasting blood sugar of 200. I am so carb sensitive that even the smallest amount sets me off. It takes a long time to decrease insulin resistance and carb sensitivity.
So all day it was a struggle. I still want that cake. I am still just wanting to eat for nothing. I think it's work stress that is nagging me.
Well, thanks for being here. I am glad I can come and be accountable. I'm sure this won't be the last time. I have to just know I can fall down and get right back up and keep going! NEVER GIVE UP! ~Shelly

Sorry for sticking my nose in, but was there a medical reason for the 42 hour fast? It just seems like an awfully long time to go without food. When people are really restrictive they tend to binge on the rebound. That fast might have been part of the reason you lost control due to hunger. Good job not eating the desserts though! Good luck.

This is only a temporary setback. You can get right back on track and next time you will go even longer before a slip up. One day at a time!

Just a thought...do you think it would have been less cals if you just had a skinny piece of cake just to get the craving over with? Or would you be someone who would not be happy with a skinny piece?

no one is perfect. you owned it and want to change it, that's the best thing. hang in there and just get back on track. I have the same problem with hunger and cravings, I struggle with it. I found that walking out my front door, walking it out for a bit, then drinking something like iced tea or kool-aid with Splenda helps me get over my cravings. sugar free jello works too. in the middle of the night I just fill up on something to drink that's sweet but sugar free or make myself eat some of my favorite fruit or jello. sweet seems to do the trick, i just try to make it a good choice. you're doing great, keep going!!

Hi everyone thank you for the kind words of support. I am back on track with a mild up-tick in weight. I hate when I binge eat b/c it derails me slightly and I have to get back into fat burning mode which can take a week. But yes as many of you said, it's a marathon, not a sprint. I definitely agree that fasting can put you at risk for binge eating but I do it for health reasons, but not to lose weight. I do it to lower my insulin which in turn lowers my blood sugar. I follow the teachings on this subject of Dr. Jason Fung and his books Guide to Intermittent Fasting, The Obesity Code, and The Diabetes Code plus countless YouTubeVideos. Also follow Dr. Rob Cywes, #carbaddictdoc, who I think is just great for explaining ketosis and carb addiction. He gives practical, easy to follow, no-nonsense advice. I wouldn't keep carbs in the house but I live with 2 people who do and I don't have a lot of say in it except I did ask if they could keep the chips upstairs and away from the kitchen. Most normal people would think that cereal isn't a "junk food" but I look at it as an awesome binge food. LOL Of course, Corn Flakes are way easier to binge eat than Rice Krispies, right? As far as eating a "little taste" of cake, nope, can't happen. I am like an alcoholic with respect to carbs and sugar and one small taste doesn't work for me, unfortunately. Once I started I would have eaten the whole cake and then the cookies. It's a behavior that defies logic.

I have those internal struggles all the time . I often stay up late to get work done and I could be good all day but something about staying up makes me hungry . I been guilty of eating cornflakes at 1 am 😞.
