Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas! I had to laugh at the gifts I got: a super nice non-stick pan, an electric pressure cooker, and Olympic weight lifting shoes! Surprised my family listed to what I wanted for once. This never happens!
Only one more day of indulgence lined up, which is of course new years eve. Meeting up with friends I haven't seen in forever, and going to a scotch bar. After that, I plan on doing a dry January, which may continue through to Easter, since my boyfriend is planning on giving up alcohol for Lent. Booze always gets me in trouble, so I'm looking forward to this.

I need a hard reboot. I keep falling into a funk. Coincidentally, these "funks" always seem to happen when I stop taking my meds for depression. I get into a mind state where taking care of myself just seems impossible, and all of my energy is put into making it through the work day. And then of course I realize why I'm behaving that way, but takes me a while to get back into focus. I've been travelling all over the country for work lately as well, which certainly isn't helping.
So I'm making my "new year's resolution" a little early. Zero "nothing days" for me for the next 365 days. For me, a "nothing day" is a day where I just don't get anything done. And I'm going to only focus on three areas: exercise, reading, and healthy eating. Whether it's 5 minutes of pushups before bed or reading a quick article or one healthy meal a day, there can't be any days where I do nothing. I think this will help me get out of the "all or nothing" mindset, and focus on making it a habit.

One more week. Just one more week until I'm done with the semester. It turns out that grad school is actually a ton of work. Can't wait for these courses to be done! But time needs to not be going by so fast. Work has been so busy as well. I've been put onto a team that I'm vastly under qualified for, that's designing the setup and maintenance plan for a new pharmaceutical-grade manufacturing facility. I've been wondering what in the world I was doing on that team until I had a meeting yesterday with my mentor. Apparently the president of the entire freaking company wanted me involved so that I can help manage the startup and whatnot. Did I mention that this place will be several states away? So, it looks like there's a move coming up in my future. At least it won't be for another year or so. I'll be disappointed to leave my current position. I've been working in research and development for the past year or so, and just love it. Hopefully I can come back to this department at some point.
In the meantime, food choices could have been much better, but doing alright. Getting my miles in on the bike. Joined a challenge this month that for every 30 miles I ride I get entered to win a new bike, so that's great motivation. Crossfit has been going well also, learning more about Olympic lifting techniques which has been a lot of fun. Few things are as satisfying to me as weightlifting.

Didn't make it to the gym as I planned yesterday since my legs are still screaming from Monday. However, I did get my bike set up on my trainer in my apartment so I can keep up on my riding this winter. Also downloaded an 8-week training plan focused on interval training and timing to help with fat loss, so we’ll see how that goes! Combine that with weightlifting and I should stay on track this holiday season. I registered for RAGBRAI again, and I really want to be at my target weight by then. It would make the ride so much easier without towing around this extra 30 lbs…..
Love the indoor set-up I have though. Works really well so that I can continue that virtual cycling game. Got in 20 miles yesterday, so not too bad for coming back after a break!

Eesh. Long break in focus. Traveled to England for a week, where I definitely overindulged on their delicious beer, but balanced that out by getting the flu for a week after I got home :( Consequences of breathing other people's air for 8 hours in a tube hurtling through the sky I suppose. Still feeling a bit like death, but functioning at least. Made it to the gym for the first time in a while yesterday, and that was brutal. I just couldn't catch my breath. Gonna keep at it though and go again today, but will keep the intensity lower.
On the plus side, my boyfriend has almost completed his paramedic training, and is planning on working at the fire department as a firefighter/paramedic. Which means he needs to get his butt in shape, so he's all on board for the whole healthy eating/habits/exercising, which has made life much easier. Granted, with his stature and activity levels he needs to eat wayyy more than me, however managing portions hasn't been too hard. My grocery bill has just increased, lol!
Goals this week are to get some sort of activity in every day and increase my water intake.
