I'm a 50+ guy, married with two kids (11 & 13) living in the Snoqualmie Valley just east of Seattle, Washington. I haven't actually had weight issues most of my life. But I went through a rough patch a few years ago when the economy bottomed out. Like a lot of other folks I found my 20+ year career in the tech space to have pretty much bottomed out. I was out of regular work for the better part of three years. We lightened our load of lots of 'stuff' with the personal exception that I increased my personal load by more than 50 lbs. After getting close to 250 about 15 months ago, I decided it was time to do something about it. For the most part, I cut out the 'bad' carbs, increased my veggie and fruit intake and to a somewhat lesser degree, protein as well. Over the course of a few months, I managed to knock off 40 lbs, settling in at 210. Having creeped back up to almost 220, I regained my motivation and found this app and website. Started tracking at 215, with a goal of hitting 180. My schedule doesn't really allow for any real regular exercise regimen, so I'm doing it primarily with some walking and reducing my calorie, fat and carb intake. That's the plan.

Sleeping
I'm new to this as well, and am still figuring it out. However, it looks like you can change the daily defaults for most of the non-food items, and you can choose different defaults for different days of the week. I know it's still a pain to accurately capture daily variations (I work nights, so my sleep patterns vary quite a bit).

The bottom line is, since there are 24 hours in a day, if you add something new, it takes away from something existing (by default, 'resting' shrinks when something else increases). So you change how many hours you slept (I wouldn't get too stressed about being exact), and it will automatically adjust the resting category for that day.

I think. Wink
