Over the last few years my life has seemed so out of control. I went through a divorce, got remarried, found my faith, lost way too many loved ones, lost and mostly gained a ton of weight, quit smoking, bought a house...oh my goodness, it's just really crazy. Somewhere in all of that I feel like I lost myself...the real me. Looking back I realize that I have tried so hard to change myself for other people, just a little here and a little there, but eventually almost all of me is gone. No more! I need to get back to who I really am, and that starts today. One example is my health and how I eat. For so many years I was a vegetarian and a vegan, I was healthy worked out and ate right. Then I met my husband. Don't get me wrong, it's not his fault, it's mine, but I changed who I was to suit him. I started eating meat because he did and I I wanted to be able to share food experiences together, I stopped going to the gym because he is not exactly a gym goer and I didn't want to spend time apart from him, I even started smoking because he was a smoker. But that is not me. I am going back to eating a healthy plant-based diet because that is what works for me. We both quit smoking, thank goodness, and we have decided to start getting out in nature more. He doesn't like gyms, but he is an outdoorsman. I have decided that I need to take control of my health once and for all. I won't be logging calories too often on here because honestly, when eating a whole foods plant-based diet it isn't really neccesary, but in the beginning and every now an then I might, just to see where I am at. I am also only going to weigh in like once a month. Here is to a great new year! God Bless.

Went to Bar Harbor over the weekend and did not stick to the plan. I had a wonderful time though, and after the year I've had it was nice. Gained a couple of pounds, but it was worth it! On another note, the LCHF diet just didn't work for me. Tried it for a while, but I just couldn't stick with it, I felt awful. back to just watching caloric intake and getting exercise. Bought some new LL Bean hiking boots in Maine and plan on hiking Joe English Mountain (here on Base) after work 3 times a week. I went the other day and it was a great hike!

Not bad for a couple of days. I am feeling a little strange. I ate ALOT yesterday, and I was still hungry, but today I don't really feel like eating at all. I'm starting to get the feeling that this diet works because you get so sick of the foods your allowed to eat that you just don't eat. I mean, how many eggs can a person really eat, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but I am tired of bacon! After only two days. But I am happy with the results and I think I am going to stick with it for a while and see how I feel after I get through the sugar detox phase.

For those of you on a low carb diet, I was wondering if you could help me out. I've never tried it before, but I thought since I am essentially starting over I might try something other than just plain old calorie counting (which never seemed to work all that well anyway). I am planning on staying under 30 carbs a day for now, but is it true I can eat as much as I want as long as I stay under on carbs? How can that really work? Any tips or advice would be appreciated.
