I am a 5'10", 36 year old stay at home mom. I've been married 15 years and our son is 11. He has Cystic Fibrosis. He struggles to gain weight and I struggle to take it off. I have always cooked high calories and high fats for him in order to get him to a good weight and to keep him healthy. In the mean time, my husband and I continued to eat with him. Now it is time to cook healthier options for all of us. My husband has also decided to join me on our road to healthier, leaner bodies. I hate it that men can drop weight quicker than women. Oh well, at least he is supportive.

Portion sizes and small plate meals
Drink a couple of glasses of water before you get started. You will be amazed how quickly you will feel full after that. That is my weapon when we go out with friends. No one questions you drinking water, but they will question if you order "out of the norm" or don't participate with the pass arounds.

Also, try to figure out ahead of time what your best choices are. I am not a sushi eater, but, you could always get a general idea of which rolls have the fewest calories, fat or carbs (whatever you may be counting) and go with those choices. I try to get a look at the menu ahead of time just to go in with a plan. Even the little restaurants are putting their menus online now!

What is your typical daily calorie count on Atkins?
I am doing a medically supervised high protein, low carb diet. We can have vegetables, meat, dairy and limited fruits. My daily calories are average 750-800 a day. They just don't want you dropping below 600 a day. It's hard to add calories when your not hungry.

If you do your weight times 11 that gives you your daily calories to sustain your weight, so as long as your eating below that, you will loose some. It just won't come off as quickly. Good Luck!

Great Motto
Michelle, that has become my slogan too. I enjoy food too, but, I enjoy wearing the smaller sizes and not having to shop in a plus size store so much more. There is no full calorie, full fat food that tastes good enough to give that up.

There are so many healthy food choices that give you taste and smaller sizes that you can have both. The motto is a great way to remind us where we want to be when temptation is right in our faces!

Lost 45 w/ little effort, now with tons of effort I'm putting on weight??
Remember that muscle weighs more than fat. Your body may be changing in to lean muscle mass. Have you checked your BMI? Have you checked your measurements? You can't go by weight alone.
