Note to self: Beware of theaters and the allure of buttered popcorn.

Yesterday was the hardest day since I began this journey. Up until then, the aroma of various foods were merely hypnotic and only conjured fond memories of an indulgent past with perhaps a promise of hope for a future portion-controlled treat within bounds and moderation.

We went to see The Manzanar Fishing Club with my husband's family. It was an excellent movie about dignity, freedom, the spirit of men, and following what's closest to your heart. What was interesting is no one left before the end credits were entirely over... not one person left their seat.

It wasn't a lengthy movie, but in that short span of time, I learned more about my husband's uncle than I had over decades of family gatherings. What a surprise to see him as one of the featured cast members and to hear his story, one I would never have imagined.

Armed with sodas and (gulp) huge bags of buttered popcorn that was further divided into carrying trays, we entered the theater. That meant popcorn on each side of me. It was a nail-biting moment. White knuckle time! I could hear the crunch from those sitting around me. I could almost taste the buttery flavor.

I kept saying to myself ".2 pounds to go. .2 pounds to go." Did that help? NO! About an hour into the show, I finally gave in. I tried to calculate what portion I could afford, but it's hard to figure out how to divide a kazillion calories into something affordable.

My hand ever so slowly crept over toward my husband. I wish I could have said to romantically hold his hand. But, no, the snack monster claw was reaching out for (yum) some buttery morsels of forbidden, greasy, buttery, fat-filled POPCORN! The image of Golem flashed before me. "My precious! My precious!"

Ah, finally! Success! My hand was in the tray. Oh, wait. Huh? What? IT WAS EMPTY! HE ATE IT ALL! NOT EVEN ONE KERNEL!

We should have gone to see Lord of the Rings instead. At least if we had, people would think I was mimicking Golem from the movie as I exited the theater mumbling "My precious! My precious!"

I need your help and your votes. What flavor is your favorite? Fruit? Chocolate? Coffee? Dulce de leche?

I know it's off topic, but I could use your help!

These are the flavors we'll be tasting on Tuesday. The wedding cake will be white with either butter cream or whipped cream icing (worried about the heat and whipped cream, though).

BAVARIAN CRÈME FILLINGS:
Minty Chocolate Chip
Chocolate Bavarian
Lemon Bavarian
Raspberry Bavarian
Raspberry Chocolate Bavarian
Strawberry Bavarian
Creamy Keylime
Amaretto Bavarian Cream
Apricot Bavarian Cream
California Sunset
Cherry Bavarian
Chocolate Rum Cream
Dulce de Leche
Mango Cream
French Vanilla Bavarian
Tropical Delight
Mocha Latte
Peanut Butter Crème
Banana Bavarian

The decoration is going to be white icing with branches of pale pink cherry blossoms. I don't think genache and cherry blossoms would be as visually effective, although (sigh) genache is so yummy.

If the location makes any difference, the ceremony and reception venues have an ocean/beach view). The theme colors are going to be stark white with silver/pale gray) accents.

Thanks for your input! It will help to get a broader idea of favorites than just the two of us! Again, wishing my daughter could be here to decide.

To all my wonderful buddies... thanks for being so patient with my inattentiveness. I haven't forgotten about any of you.

I didn't realize time would speed up to warp speed and I'd be so pressed for time. The wedding date is approaching faster than Eddie Cheever's Indy 500 race car! (I think the world of Eddie... what a wonderful, witty man he is!)

Although I've kept track of what I'm eating and not much has changed in food, the lack of time to properly exercise has taken it's toll. It seems as if I'm now inching toward my goal. Scotty, just beam me down already!

What's harder than losing weight?

1. Finding a dress for the wedding (I've shopped for two weeks!) and finding shoes to match a dress not yet selected.
2. Installing/mounting a 90-pound TV on the wall and reconfiguring the speakers to work (the subwoofer is still not working).
3. Vacillating between a butterfly release or a dove release for the wedding... but then having second thoughts in case one of the doves dies from the heat or a guest discovers a dead butterfly in their packet.
4. Appointments with the wedding coordinator. (Wish my daughter lived here so she could do it herself.)
5. Let's not forget to include keeping abreast with work obligations; thus a lack of sleep.
6. Sacrificing exercise time to do the above. Note to self: EXERCISE DOES MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE IN WEIGHT LOSS.

Ahem... and the dreaded fifteen flavors of cake tasting yet to come!!!

There's an upside, though. I found my dress this morning at David's Bridal. It may sound a bit weird, but it's asymmetrical with one bat sleeve. (Bat sleeve? Perhaps fitting... don't son-in-laws refer to mother-in-laws as "the old bat"?) The dress was not in the size I had hoped for, but it fits without alterations. If you're height challenged with a short waist, you know what a miracle that is! (I think it was intended as a mini length for someone an average height, so no hemming for me... a good thing since they said alterations will take SIX weeks and the wedding is in FIVE.)

The M&Ms are ordered. Did you know they can put REAL PICTURES on them? How cute is that! I ordered them in pearl, baby blue, and lavender with their names, date, and portrait. In hindsight, I should have order a few in dark blue and white (as in AF) and had a picture of a plane on some (considering both are pilots).

I see everyone is doing a great job here. Oh, and one in particular is now BELOW her goal! Congrats!!!

Enough of my rambling. It's time to get back to work and be productive.

Unless you have a personal contact with the Enterprise and know of a secret way to get beamed down to your goal, keep on exercising... IT DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
