I was a normal size child until I was in 3rd grade. That's when I started packing on the pounds. I never liked physical activity, and I think eating was my way of dealing with a lot of junk that was going on around me. Speaking of junk, there was plenty of junk food at my house. We didn't have money for going out to dinner often, but we did have cookies and frosted cereal. When I scraped my knee, my mom shoved a cookie in my mouth and suddenly things were better.

By 9th grade I weighed 180 lbs. My little friends were starting to date, and no boys were interested in me. I started dieting and exercising and got down to 150 by 11th grade. It's the only time in my life I really felt beautiful. When I started college my weight had crept back up to about 170 and when I graduated I was well into the 200's.

At age 24, and after a series of dud boyfriends, I weighed 285 and I was sure I would never find anyone to love me at that size. Then I met my husband. He's always been attracted to athletic women, and yet he fell in love with me anyway. And he honestly thinks I beautiful no matter what size I am. Good thing too, because at 28 I weighed 310. That was after the birth of our first son. I was diagnosed as hypothyroid, and I thought when I got on my thyroid hormone the weight would naturally start shedding. It didn't. I went on atkins for a little while, and lost 30 lbs, but my obgyn told me if I wanted to start trying for another child I had to go off it. 2 kids later I'm finally ready to start back on it.

The Gym
From what I understand, there is no real way to target weight loss. Weight is going to come off where your body tells it to, no matter what exercise you are doing. Strength training can help though in that...

A) you will lose weight faster as you gain muscle and therefore increase your metabolism.

B)you can build up the muscle in your legs so they do not look out of proportion with your body.

Let the Gaining begin!
Say this to yourself, or out loud if you have to... "Don't cheat yourself." When I do this it helps me remember that my goal has a much bigger payoff than the piece of candy. Funny as it sounds, saying it out loud really helps.

What have you noticed since losing weight?
At my highest I was 310- I've noticed how much better I feel. I've been overweight so long now I forget what I'm supposed to feel like. It's amazing how much better I feel from every few more pounds gone.

And I'm starting to notice what potential I have to be a hot mamma! Wink

Thanksgiving
Right now I have a once a week cheat day built in to the diet, so I'm just going to move that day to fall on special days through the holidays. This may not result in the fastest weight loss I might accomplish by some other diet, but I feel that I need that flexibility. I know too many times I've completely thrown out dieting this time of year, figuring I'd never be successful and I'd be better off picking it back up in January. This way I can power through it. A few cheat days are a lot better than 2 months worth of cheat days!!

nutrisystem
I was on it for a while and had good success with it. The taste of the food is really hit or miss though. Some things are pretty good, other things (like the eggs IMO) are awful.

I think it's a good way to jump start yourself. Eventually you might want to switch to a plan that you can work into a lifestyle change.
