Life has been crazy, as usual, and I have not been diligent in recording my food. I weigh my food to make sure I'm getting the correct portion and that can be a royal pain in the mornings when getting ready for work. I've been dealing with a lot of pain over many years and it has gotten to an intolerable level lately, so I've been going to different doctors a lot these days. What I'm dealing with is nothing different than anyone else, degenerative disc disease in my neck and back, osteo-arthritis in both hands, arthritis in my back and I have a couple of impinged nerves in my neck thanks to the DJD, along with bone spurs. I have already tried an epidural for the nerve pain, to no avail. I have another option, ablation (basically burning the nerve ends so I can't feel pain) that I am praying helps. However, the latest blow was the diagnosis of fibromyalgia. I have had it for years, but the pain has increased, which just led to the diagnosis. I've just always chalked the pain up to age or certain activities, etc., but some of them have been really odd lately, which led to going to a rheumatologist. Well, she wanted to put me on Cymbalta, which is for depression, but is widely used to treat fibro. Two days in and it became a hard NO! My throat starting closing up on me, along with all the other expected, undesirable side effects. I immediately stopped taking it. That's when I realized that my health and well-being is in my hands, not the doctors'. I've been researching a lot and I've always known that excess/added sugar is a huge factor in a lot of the diseases/ailments that we have today. I've just never had to worry that much about the affects of it, until now. I'm still in the process of tweaking my diet, eliminating what I can, reading every freaking label for sugar content and passing on anything that has more than 1 or 2 g added sugar. I'm striving for zero, but, it takes time. My last recorded weight here was 150 prior to starting this, but I had actually fluctuated back up to around 152 or 153. So in the two weeks I have been making these changes, I have already lost 4 or 5 pounds. I haven't lost that much in such a short time since I was in my twenties! I'm ecstatic to see the scale going down, but this is more of a health journey for me at this point. It always was, I wanted to lose weight to be healthy and I generally chose healthier foods, but I would still eat chips and desserts in moderation, just counting those calories. Now it is eating to be healthy and I'm sure the weight loss will follow. Junk food is going to be a hard pass now. Inflammation has so many food triggers, but sugar is probably the biggest, so it's the one I have to stay away from. I will be making my own treats, with healthier ingredients. I may eliminate other things like dairy and/or gluten if it becomes necessary, but that will be down the road a bit. I'm really hoping it doesn't come to that. It's already a mental challenge getting away from sugar, I can't even imagine giving up gluten completely. One step at a time. My journey is just beginning.
