Okay so the week before last I went to see my doctor. My Doc is becoming a hospitalist and he's a truly great doc. So it was a sad appointment. I was the last appointment he ever had in private practice. It was sad, but it was great for him and I. After so many appointments where he encouraged me to lose weight and he gave me tips all the time to be helpful on that path, and never heavy handed about it as some doctors are, I came in for my yearly appointment down 20 lbs!!! AND my blood work that had slowly been getting worse over the years was entirely fine and straightened out! I'm so happy I could be a success for him and for myself. It was a great way to send him on to the hospital where he'll be helping lots of folks and they'll be lucky to have him!

Also I had bought pants like 9 months ago and they were just too darn tight... I couldn't breathe or even sit comfortably in them and I had filed them away in my closet. i broke them out yesterday and I showed my son with a nice full squat that they were loose and comfy and now the RIGHT size! (He's been so proud of me that I lost a little weight)

Also this hasn't been hard actually and I can likely drop weight quicker if I want to and actually try. I've been eating a lot of boneless skinless chicken breast on salads and I like it! I'm also eating earlier and getting a little more sleep though I still have work to do on that front. But a big thing is we started hiking and camping again and because of it I've been getting more exercise that isn't perceived as a chore and something to dread! it's just been fun and good and rewarding! I love being out in nature! It calms my spirit and recharges my batteries and helps me attack life better.

Our hiking and camping is in a tent on the ground. There is no running water, we have to go to a well and it may not be potable but its okay to wash hands in. Now the campground has an electric pump for the water. Years ago we had to hand pump it. There is no electricity that we can access for our use. There are only vault toilets which are like glorified port-a-potties. There is no sink to wash your hands. And it gets cold in the mountains. Even in the dead of summer it can get down into the 40's. The only warmth you get is dependent on how good a fire you can make! It's rough camping not the floofy stuff...lol. and I love it! This weekend we saw a young bull moose.
When the young are about a year and a half old the mother moose runs the baby off so she can mate again. This guy was about 20 feet from us and calm and peaceful and so were we, so we were able to get a few nice pictures. He knew we were there. We were whispering to one another and his ears were turning to us. But we were quiet and calm and stayed only long enough (about 3 minutes) to snap some quick pictures and then we quietly retreated back the way we had come. When we were about 100 yards out I turned back to take a last look and he had stood up and he must have been 6 ft at the shoulder. We didn't want to stay long and allow him to get comfortable with humans. That never turns out well. It can go badly for either human or animal. So we tried to keep it short to be respectful. It was an incredible moment to be that close to a wild moose.

Also please don't approach wild moose. It is dangerous. If mom had still been hanging around she would have charged us and if this baby bull was a little older he would have become territorial and would have charged us. It's an incredibly tiny window of time where this might be okay to do and we happened to hit it right! Be safe out there!
