In early 2014 I faced up to my demons and started recording my voyage with fatsecret. Since, I've resolved the belly over the belt issue and dropped about 10 kgs and two dress sizes. The ongoing goal is to trim and tone the wobbly bits. I'll leave the rhetoric question on this page because it serves as a reminder as to why am I doing this?

I take my hat off to my fellow FS peers. It's bloody hard having others see the trials that revolve around our lives. Better to enjoy the journey and keeps ones head below the parapets as weight loss is very personal and comments, however innocent can open one up to abuse. Stay on my own waka and be positive to those who work hard, occasionally default and have enough humility to bite the bullet and get back on the wagon.

When I started this journey, I wasn't entirely sure … Now I know it was time to take action rather than wait for my body to deteriorate completely. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. and a more recent lesson ... maintenance works if one keeps the weigh-ins to a regular but greater interval.

Then I was not happy with the belly that hung over the top of my skinny jeans. Summers has gone and I've pulled out the jeans … discovered belt is too large so have resorted to adding a new notc). After a year (Nov 2015) it's all for the better tho I've been juggling with the maintenance process.

I love food … and maybe … if I put a bit of effort into it, I can continue to maintain this weight and level of fitness. I know the technicalities, now dealing with the practicalities and have learn to cut myself (and others) a break if they slide a little.

The hard truth hasn't changed … if I put it in my gob, I need to move me arse.

How my calories should I be eating each day?
Hi Angel.

I'm a tall unit like you too. I've never been as heavy however, as you've mentioned you're struggling on 1200-1500 calories a day, I thought I would just share a little of my own experience.

I'm twice your age and I know after many years of experience, the minimum to keep me feeling well is around 1800 with light activity. The more I do, the more calories I require. ATM I'm happy on around 2200 with light activity and increase to 2500 (heavy). Everyone is different.

Bill and jmb's suggestions are very sensible and are old fashioned good advice. It may be that you resign yourself to a slower but more stable regime of weight loss. It give you and your body time to adjust plus develop good habits. You may readjust your calorie intake as required as time passes. It is possible to slip up. I encourage you to be positive, not beat yourself up too much and enjoy the journey.

Finally best wishes with reaching your goals.

Sharing recipes with buddies but not publishing them?`
You could try using the MY SAVED MEALS / MY CUSTOM FOODS facility.

It requires a little work, i.e. you need to enter your receipe's analysed breakdown first.

If you are using a receipe that is already analysed e.g. Good Housekeeping or BBC GoodFood just input the values as specified.

Alternatively, I use: http://caloriecount.about.com/cc/recipe_analysis.php

It's an American site but easy to use and for most part gives accurate breakdown of your meal. It asks for the number of servings and the analysis will give the nutritional breakdowns for a single serve. It won't matter how big the foodstuff is, and should negate having to enter 1/45th values.

Be careful with measurements as America varies alot from the UK. There are also others. Really a matter of personal preference.

Type in your recipe under the description/notes facility. If your account is set to private than only your buddies should be able to view the recipe by select the item in your custom food directory.

Hope this helps. Good luck - there may be easier ways that someone else has found.

Losing weight but not inches. Is it normal?
Hi Yaya.

Everyone is different. FS is tailored for an 'average' weight with varying degrees of activity. Factors that may be influencing your perception of there being no change can be similar to mine. Are you tall? i.e. nearing 5'8" or 5'10? And how much exercise and what types of exercised are you doing? If you are doing a lot of aerobic exercise, you may not be developing the muscle density that reins in the inches.

Your friends have probably noticed small changes in your appearance e.g. face becoming slimmer, shoulders and calves becoming visibly less rounded etc. These changes are not measured as part of a weight management regime. Remember also that we are our own worst critics, enjoy the compliments you're receiving.

If you can keep an eye on your calorie consumption and keep active, plus not beat yourself up about it, it does become second nature and you will get the rewards you are seeking.

Keep up the good work and Good luck!

Once input, you are able to select the item over and over again by choosing itfrom the right-hand column and selecting the correct meal type i.e Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner or Snack.

So You Want To Be A Loser
Love the tone and reflective nature of your post.

"Loser" is such a double-edged sword. The mind has an incredible way of filtering out information that challenges our perception of who we are and what we look like.

My weight has fluctuated between 0 and 20kgs in the past twenty years but as I didn't have the dramatic size increases i.e. only changed from size 16 to 18 … I told myself that everything was fine; a little weight was "healthy"; fat was good for my complexion.

It took aching hip joints and continuous struggling up stairs to complete a reality check and admit that I was a "loser". I'd fallen into a trap of unconsciously operating.

It's possible to see from your life-story that it's easy to do. Thank you for sharing and maintaing a humorous outlook.

I too have found Fatsecret a great tool to push myself to lose more of the unwanted kgs. As a different 'Loser', the challenge for me will be conscious maintenance without excuses, once I hit my goal weight/size.
