RiverRes's Journal, 29 July 2019

It is hard for me to say I am in "maintenance mode" when I am disappointed at the rate that the scale numbers go down.

I am part of a program through my work that has set an arbitrary number of 153.1 pounds for me to attain by this Saturday. I have been on the program for 12 weeks and have been plateaued for nearly that long. I won't reach that weight without fasting for the next 6 days, so it is a no-go. I have only been able to fast for 3 days at a time without feeling weak. I cling to the premise that scales lie and the numbers don't mean that much; but so many health/insurance providers rely on that scale metric as the end all/be all for health. Pooh!

I am feeling healthy and so happy that I don't really have to think about what to eat or when to eat. I eat when I am hungry. I eat things made at home and don't eat anything out of a box. I have come so far from the food focused person I used to be - but this program insists on daily weigh ins, food journals, and everything else I am trying to let go of as I adopt this way of eating as my day-to-day lifestyle. And this program goes through December! I will not let them dissuade me, though. I have come too far for a program based of the SAD to derail me with their misinformed propaganda.

Onward and downward - at whatever pace my body decides!!
156.5 lb Lost so far: 42.1 lb.    Still to go: 0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

Is this required? If so, is that even legal? You have worked so many years on this and you've found your balance.

Hi Bells! They ID'd me as at risk for diabetes and heart disease so it was highly "recommended" by my health insurance. I've let them know that Fat Secret and the forum here saved my life and allowed me to turn myself around. They haven't done anything but take up my time.

Ah. I mentioned FS to my Doc last time; didn't bring it up this time. It is ... 'something' (grasping for the word) that this place can be life saving. Whether the person just uses it to track intake and get a better understanding of the nutrition, try the recipes or participate by interacting, there is just something about it that helps. I'm glad you're here. Are you on meds for the blood sugar or just going to try to modify with less processed sugar?

That is what happened similar to my bf. They tested for tobacco and would have increased his premiums if tested positive. So he had an increased incentive to quick smoking.

A former employer required everyone to get "metabolic syndrome" test and certify we were non-smokers or else our health insurance premiums would go up. The test didn't catch my pre-diabetes, which crossed into overt T2D a couple of years later.

Thanks everyone - I realize a company's bottom line has to manage the risk associated with the health and well being of their employees; however, this program has been a little invasive. There are some of my co-workers who have taken it seriously (and to their benefit) and others have just blown it off. We'll see if there are consequences. Bells- I have been off all meds for over a year. I caught myself at pre-diabetes (A1c of 6.2) and started LCHF 18 months ago. My A1c a year ago was 5.0. Quite a turnaround in just 6 months!
