Hello FS!

I am happy that my weight is still going down. I continue to follow a LC/HF lifestyle and now can say I have been doing it for 17 months. I think that puts me firmly in the "this is my way of life" now category. People ask how I could possibly give up the bread, fruits, potatoes, etc. and not be tempted, and I just shake my head - those foods made me feel so terrible! Aches and pains I never could get rid of. Constant heartburn. I even got eczema!

But, no more! I am gradually creeping up on my ideal weight. I eat delicious food every day (unless I am fasting). I am off all prescription medications. I work out 4-6 times per week with plenty of energy and the knowledge that my body is stronger than it has been in years.

Why did it take me so long to figure this out? I consider myself an intelligent person, but I bought into all the BS about "diets". If I had only known that I needed to change the way my body processes food (keeping my insulin down), it would have saved me years and years of starvation as I tried to count every calorie that went into my mouth. Water under the bridge.

I wish everyone success in their personal journey - I just felt it was time to share a little more of my story. 247 lbs > 204 lbs with calorie restriction and constant hunger (2014-2018). 200 lbs > 157 eating HCLF (2/2018 - present). 1/3 of me gone and it will never be back!!
156.7 lb Lost so far: 41.9 lb.    Still to go: 0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

Diet Calendar Entry for 06 June 2019:
2128 kcal Activities & Exercise: Fitbit - 24 hours. more...
losing 0.5 lb a week

Wonderful story! 18 months is great! I am at 8 so far and loving it as well. If you do not mind me asking... what is a typical menu for you?

As one of my long time FS buddies you must know I'm totally applauding you right now. I've never been able to get past the 'terrible twos' of weight loss and maintenance but like you I've always done it low cal / constant hunger. I'm hoping and praying I too can share your statistics. Eighteen months with a minimal gain then loss... I WANT to be you when I grow up!

Hi Liv001! Typical menu for me - Breakfast = coffee with cream and butter or cacao butter. Lunch = simple protein (usually leftover from night before) and a salad with bacon, olive oil, and vinegar. Dinner ranges from simple proteins w/buttered vegetables, eggs and bacon, or casseroles (thank you diet doctor!). I also roast my own pecans with butter and salt for that crunchy/salty taste fix. I eat NOTHING out of a box. The only bags I use are frozen vegetable bags. No more frozen hockey pucks (aka lean cuisine) for lunch. It has been a complete shift for me to go from highly processed foods to only foods I cook myself. Sundays are meal prep and planning days for me.

Low carb is the only thing that worked for me too. I know people frown on eating the bacon and red meats but it worked for me. Congrats and keep it going!!!!

how often do you fast?

Ally_jo - I fast nearly every day for at least 16-18 hours (dinner to late lunch). I just don't need breakfast anymore. I also sometimes do OMAD (one meal a day). Once or twice every three months I will do a longer fast (up to 72 hours) for an immune system re-boot. The big thing is to mix it up. There are times that my body seems to hold onto weight. When it does that (scale isn't moving), I either feast or fast. Both have caused the scale to move downward and keeps my body guessing. LCHF feasting also ensures that my metabolism stays up and then I don't have to worry about my body thinking 1500 calories is all it will ever need.
