kingkeld's Journal, 29 April 2012

Had a BLAST yesterday! The result is - of course - a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE weigh-in.

I am SO tempted to NOT record this, but I better do it. This will bring me back in the "green" ticker section - a place I do NOT want to be.

Of course, It's not like I spontaneously ate 25,000 extra calories. Other factors gotta be in play here. Most of this will be gone in a few days, the rest will come. I'm done having fun, and on track today.

So what awesome fun did we have yesterday? More on that tomorrow. Today is family time day.

Happy Sunday, everyone! Life is good!

I HOPE it will be better, Helewis! ...of course it will. I know it's a fluke, though I did misbehave some, nothing like what this weigh-in indicates. It'll come off again before I know it - so I'm not at all worried. I just don't like to see that green bar. :)

An overnight increase of that size suggests your body is basically running on empty. No glycogen, low water....the result of a very prolonged calorie deficit. It also suggests you haven't actually been eating at your maintenance level, because this weight would have come back on already. FWIW, after I got done losing most of my fat the first time around, about a year ago, I regained nearly 12 pounds almost immediately - very little of it fat. Don't let this number on the scale scare you! In my opinion, it's actually a good thing - you're restocking a lot of what had been depleted. You'll probably see most of it flush out in the next couple days, though, unless you keep up the same dietary pace you had yesterday.

good info, Nimm. Thanks for all of us.

It's a common problem for dieting - and one that I made, and don't want to see others repeat. When you reach your goal weight, your body is often depleted of most of its labile reserves. Increasing calories helps refill those temporary stores, but causes fast, large upticks on the scale - which are very, very unnerving. This weight regain has to happen sooner or later though, if you get back to your maintenance level. But overreacting to the scale movement and interpreting it as a large calorie surplus is a mistake - you cab end up keeping yourself in a deficit and brutalizing your metabolism even more. It's a rough psychological dilemma after months of careful calorie counting and weight monitoring!

Thanks from me too, Nimm. This IS good info. I'm in no way in a panic about the weight. I know it'll come off again, most of it. There will always be fluctuations.

I'll bet there's some water retention factoring in there!

Hi Kingkeld - I am back on here - out of necessity. And salt is a big culprit with the weigh-ins, but one does need it to some degree or they will have fainting spells, etc. I am going to do low carb again in the next few weeks I will start it gradually by eating up the pasta items in my place. And doubling my walking to 4 miles a day at least. I see you are doing well and those who are on here the most consistently do the best and maintain the best too.
