Smile, everyone! It's Friday!

My weight is still up in the air, though I did lose 300 grams since yesterday. I'm nowhere near reaching my lowest for tomorrow, but that's kind of okay. I've been experience trouble in this department ever since Sunday, and been changing things around in my diet - A LOT. I'm sure my body reacts to this, and I would think that one of the risks of doing this is to have short term weight gains.

I am doing fine on my calorie intake. I believe I am back on track on my snacks and desserts.

Yesterday, I resisted chocolate bars and "Nun's Farts". I replaced my usual ice cream with an über-deliscious protein shake in the evening. I did put in a little cocoa powder (the pure chocolate kind - half the calories of regular dark chocolate) but make it more of a dessert, but all in all it wasn't horrible on the calories. It was oh, so tasty too. I am still adjusting it to my liking. I want to cut down the chocolate and sweetener that I put in, to minimize the calories. It's a balance that I need to find where it satisfies my sweet tooth AND my calorie intake.

Yesterday, I put the following in it:

1 scoop of protein powder
5 prunes
6 ice cubes
200 ml 0.5% milk
2 tsp cocoa powder
1 tsp sweetener

I'm thinking I can cut the cocoa powder in half - it was VERY chocolaty yesterday. I loved it, but I'm thinking it might not be necessary for it to satisfy still. I'll try that next time.

No shake tonight, though. I'll be out all evening, rocking with the band. It's "just" rehearsal night, but it's always a blast to do. We're gonna be doing a few new songs tonight - I'm curious if I can play them okay. I haven't really had the mental capacity to rehearse too much through the week. So many other things have been on my mind, weight loss (or lack of) has been one of them.

I gotta say I am a little frustrated with the recent gain, and the fact that it won't budge. I do know that my overall calorie intake is okay. I know that I have not had enough calories to actually gain any fat, so I am comfortable knowing that this is not the case. I think that it's mostly other factors playing in. I am thinking that the fact that I have starting taking psyllium husk twice a day changes things a little. Sure, it helps preventing constipation, but it also binds the water that I drink. Maybe that will short term hold on to the water, and of course the weight?

Also, drinking protein shakes could change some things. I have no experience with these, so I really don't know.

I can tell that my stomach (the insides, that is) feels different. I feel like I am no longer constipated. Not a whole lot of "action" is going on, but I feel better in general. I'm hoping the rest will follow through the next days.

I do think it's mostly water retention. I can actually tell by looking in the mirror that I'm retaining a little water. I look slightly bloated, compared to last week.

The approach for right now will simply be to keep going. Keep doing the psyllium husk, keep doing the shakes, keep NOT doing the ice cream and NOT doing the chocolates. I'll give it another week and we'll see where I end up.

On a good note, I did lose weight since yesterday. Whether it's an indicator that I am on the way down again, I don't know. It's way too early to tell. My smart smart scale is still playing a number on me, not telling me all the juicy details other than my actual weight. This happens when it reaches an "out of bounds" limit, which is usually when my fat percentage is REALLY low. This goes perfectly hand-in-hand with me gaining (non-fat) weight.

This morning, breakfast was really fulfilling. I just might skip the morning shake, and just eat my prunes. I don't want to be without those for right now, but if I don't feel the need for my new "2nd breakfast", then I might as well save the calories. It's still two full hours before work, so I am not sure how I will feel a little later. I think it important thing is that I choose to have it because I can tell I will need it to stay full through the morning, rather than out of boredom.

My mornings at work are sometimes kind of slow. I will mostly be doing administrative work, and I get kind of bored. This is when I want to snack, and it's a good thing that nothing is really within reach. I have a few 99 calorie bars at the office, but I am contemplating not restocking when they're gone. No need to have them within reach, if they aren't there I won't eat them. Right? :)

Anyways, I can see that I'm getting into babble mode. I think I will start rounding off today's journal.

This morning, I am thankful for
- New music! I love checking out new music.
- Morning coffee.
- The outlook of an easy work day, then the gym, then salmon for dinner, and then rocking out with the band. An awesome day.
- A weekend with a lot of fun coming up.

Before I go, let me just tell you guys that Wife's physiotherapist appointment went really well. She faced the challenge of speaking Danish with a Norwegian therapist and did amazingly well. No miscommunication whatsoever. She is SO proud. Also, she got some home exercises to do, and she can already tell that she feels better when she does them.

Happy Friday! Life is good!

:) Sounds like you've got a great Friday planned out as long as you don't get too bored at work. Glad your wife's appointment went smoothly despite language barriers. Have a great day!

your protein shake sounds really great....sometimes i do it in the same way...just with berries instead of prunes :) i ususally take the vanilla protein powder, and mix it with fresh strawberries and/or raspberries. and then some icecubes and it really is a whole meal... enjoy your day and your "fun coming up" weekend! :)

I've only got access to a VERY limited selection at the local store, these days it's chocolate and strawberry flavor. Each is $40, so I won't buy more than one at a time. I am, however, considering strawberry flavor next time along with some frozen berries. That sounds delish. However, if I keep doing the prune thing, that probably won't mix too well. I think the flavor is easier to "hide" behind chocolate. Also, being a chocoholic, I really like this one. :)

Protein shake sounds yummy :-). Glad wifes appointment went well, and she feels better after the exercises..... Can only be good for her weight loss too. I admire that you don't get stressed about your weight gain ......

SkInny, I try to NOT let it affect me. I know I have not done my best, but I also know that I have not done 3-4 kgs worth of bad. If anything, I have only done bad enough to not have a calorie deficit, if even that. It'll fix itself. I think it's more important to find the REASON and then try to do something about it. I think my digestion is the culprit.

I need a shake like that today Kingkeld! I use chocolate protien with peanut butter and spinach. Google green smoothies. I even bough a recipe book. You can hardly taste the spinach. Hang in there pal, you will get your routine squared away. It is almost frightening to me when I think about maintenance mode. So, I am watching you carefully here. Hehe, no pressure. Have a great day!

I don't know if you've ever touched on this but it might be a water issue...do you consistently drink water all day? That's important, especially w/ the husks, and the added protein shakes. Your body needs it - to shed excess water, and to move the digestion process along! ;) Just a thought. Hope you have a great weekend.

Jsfantome - thanks, but I drink a LOT of water. More than a gallon per day.

Morning buddy!! How are you? Tell us really how you feel. What a week. Whatever is going on with your metabolism and body will indeed sort itself out over time. Do keep your chin up and try not to change too many things all at once. I hope your weekend is fabulous and you get some decent rest, relaxation, and fun!! I've a busy day ahead and then my weekend starts. Take care friend!

THanks, Moose. I really am doing okay. I still have a little trouble sleeping, but essentially I am doing good. I think things are moving a little fast around me, but it's okay. Stomach feeling better too. Really! :)

Ok, I was gonna give you a tirade on greens, but Posterchild started my topic-Thanks!! Green shakes or juices are AWESOME... They have a "moving" effect also, keeping you regular and giving much needed nutrients. Poster's right about spinach--add like a 1/2 cup to your shake, you won't taste it at all. You can use frozen or fresh. Also, check out Walmart.com for the whey protein variety. They have stuff there that they could ship, and it's cheaper than $40/tub. There are tropical fruit and vanilla flavors as well, even though, lets face it-chocolate is really the BEST one! ;op We started this journey with green juices, and they're really good!! Bolthouse Farms Green Goodness is our fave, if you can get it over there... HAPPY FRIDAY!

Happy Friday to you too!!! ROCK ON, Wish you were closer so we could start a FS band!!! Did you hear my music? Now, here I go with TMI :-) When I take my fiber regularly (usually in the morning or twice a day) I am super regular which i really like. I usually have to go mid morning and it is so much nicer than not taking fiber and i am very predictable. Healthy poop floats :-) according to Dr Oz. Of course we all know pee should be on the clear side. LOL, Have a great weekend and congrads on the language accomplishment to your wife!
