Samiam9663's Journal, 01 December 2016

Okay, that's enough of that. I was actually down to 221, then up to 227, and now just this side of 230. I haven't been tracking, I've been eating crap and gorging on sugar. Xmas is coming and there will be even MORE sugar to resist, so I'd better get a handle on it now. I only want to see green arrows from here on!

Yup - winter weight gain is a real bear. I think that being rigorous about logging it before you eat it is a good plan. It makes me think. That said, I've been making a lot of bad choices just lately. I'm mindful of change theory, so I'm trying to come at the issue in the spirit of self love and acceptance. There are no easy days with this - but it does yield sustainable results. Keep on trying. Keep on believing that change is possible.

Log food for the day if you can (or for the next day also). You can see where you are for the day and how much each meal is for calorie count. Then if you decide to eat something else you will see if the calories are more or less that what you first thought of eating. I usually do well until I get home for the evening. Just take it one snack at a time and cut down when you can. Drink water from a special pretty glass. It may make you feel different about drinking more water before eating anything.

Ketogenic is easier for people who aren't that interested in sweets. I wonder if craving sweets is something you are born with, or aquire through habits as a kid, where parents didn't keep the sweets away and felt a meal was not complete without a dessert? I vote for acquiring the dessert habit as a kid with indulgent parents being at fault IMHO, but I could see a sweet tooth being genetic to some degree

I hear you. Stop eating crap!! Right now! If a cookie passes your lips, it darn well better be made with real butter by someone's Norwegian grandmother who used a secret recipe and heritage tools that you can't buy anywhere because they don't make them like they used to. That pie better have a homemade crust and filled with USDA organic ingredients. Cool Whip? Please!! Don't even! Candy - - whatever. Corn syrup is so cheap and nasty - - don't touch the stuff. That candy had better be imported from France and the chocolate? Nothing but free trade and organic will do. None of that crap is worthy of your time or your palate. Rave over the lovely salad, the meats, roll your eyes over the bites of cheese. Yummy indulgence -- green bean casserole!! Deviled eggs! One last word - Jell-O - you have got to be kidding. Starve first.

Oh, Sam - since we're both in Alberta, there is an AHS Healthy Living Program that will kickstart your weight loss with PROFESSIONAL advice and support. No voodoo diet plans - just good, scientifically proven, effective stuff. It's a freebie, but you'll need a referral from your family doctor. Worth doing. Think of it as Weight Watchers on steroids. You'll have the option to attend supervised exercise classes, consult with an RD, discuss food options to help with your diabetes. Just google AHS Healthy Living for more info. This could be a real world life saving program to kickstart you into the New Year.
