How many calories do you eat thanks to those massive workouts? Just curious… …burning more instead of eating less is underrated, but I know a woman who is a lot older than me, runs marathons, and still watches what she eats (age, maybe slow metabolism, still eats fries from time to time and still loves restaurants but usually picks healthy options off the menu, so maybe appropriate amounts for a younger, moderately active woman, but more careful than you’d expect for a marathon runner even at that age and bio female). So maybe some people burn less than you’d expect once they are extremely active, to say the least, with cardio…I’ve heard that’s a thing. You need weights too to eat more.

Once I get back to maintenance mode I let my garmin estimate my calorie burn and eat based on that. The more fit you become cardiovascular wise the less calories you burn because your body becomes more efficient at using the calories. My estimated maintenance yesterday would be around 2850 calories with a low intensity 35 minute treadmill run, weigh lifting session and 13,800 steps. This is nearly all water weight I only ate 270 calories outside of my Easter meal. Even the choices I made at easter gravitated towards high protein lower fat items besides desert.

Well…being more fit cardiovascular-wise is worth the lower calorie burn, but it explains why the woman I know who runs marathons, eats healthier/less than you’d expect even for an older woman, even though women need less. You are doing well. Keep at it.

Absolutely! My resting heart rate is down significantly since I started doing more cardio again.

My resting heart rate is 72 bpm. Used to be 60 when I was more active than now…I still exercise but sit around the rest of the day, and I used to not sit around and exercise a lot more than now. Food and slow weight loss are the focus for now. Exercising a lot instead of a little, like I used to, is next!!!
