cocobutt's Journal, 20 May 2014

I don't know if it's the weight gain or the excess sugar, but I feel awful right now. My midsection is very uncomfortable from the fat rolls. I'm anxious and depressed. My energy level is low to the point that I put off doing simple chores. I crave sweets several times a day and will go out of my way to get them... as in actually driving to the store. I stopped putting any effort into my appearance. I've been through this before. I could be describing the behavior of any addict, not just a sugar junkie like me. How do I get off this train?

You have to be willing to go to any length to lose the fat and weight! From what you say, you are a food addict, just like the alcohol or drug addict. From my experience, it is next to impossible to accomplish weight loss alone. This may sound like it is coming from left field , but have you considered group support? How about Weight Watcher meetings, or Overeaters Anonymous. You may think you can beat the fat and weight gain by yourself, just like addiction, but group support can help you out. You have started at the right place (Fat Secret). Now use the tools this site has to start you weight loss, and seek others who will support you. Good luck.

Good idea, group support. Coco, have you ever tried low carb? The books say, and I agree, that after the first 4-5 days of pure hell withdrawing from carbs/sugar, you really do stop craving sweets & carbs and it's easier to say no. I've lost 15 pounds since March by eliminating all sweets, bread, rice, potatoes and most fruits (I have cheat days about once a week). I focus mostly on protein and nuts (not unlimited) and salads & broccoli (unlimited). I keep my food journal on Fat Secret and my goal is under 40 carbs per day. Believe me it sucks not eating Doritos, crackers or ice cream, but losing the weight is great motivation, plus it feels so great to fit nicely into my pants. Good luck Cocobutt.
